June 9, 201115 yr It was today...The offense is very inconsistent...How anyone wouldn't want to improve the offense potentially is beyond me...Good pitching or not During that same stretch mentioned above the offense scored: 7, 2, 4, 2, 8, 6, 8, 8, and 1 run. That's 46 run or 5.1 run per game. The ERA for the NL is 3.78 with an average of 4.14 runs allowed per game. The Reds offense scored almost a full run per game more than the league average and the starting pitchers had a 4.50 ERA which is almost 3/4 of a run worse than average. Sure they could get more out of the LF/SS positions but pitching is where the struggles have come from.

Mo threw out their upcoming schedule and said the Reds are going to have to play .580 ball the rest of the way to get to 90 wins. Do we have any reason to believe they can?

I don't believe we do...I will be happy if they come out of June .500 overall but I just don't see it...

No chance no matter who they bring up from AAA if the starting pitching isn't lights out from this point on. I believe they have to be at close to .600 clip to win 90. 90 may get them a wild card.

Who were the Aces that shut down this great offense on that home stand? I think it's pretty safe to assume that both the offense and pitching have struggled at times(which is expected during a 162 game season). The thing is with the exception of Rolen at times the offensive guys have been healthy. If Bailey can get healthy and they go 30 or 45 games in a row with their top 6 starters making every start I'll take my chances that the pitching improves. There is seemingly no hope that Janish, Renteria, Gomes or Lewis will improve the productivity at LF or SS. That's not even mentioning that Rolen probably isn't going to tear it up at 3B.

That's not even mentioning that Rolen probably isn't going to tear it up at 3B. :thumb: The starting pitching has not been as good as expected this year, but lately, specifically since the Atlanta series (12 games), they've turned in 9 quality starts. If they keep that up, you can't ask for much more than that. Their record in those 12 games? 6-6. So yeah, the offense may have produced in some of those games adequately, but the starting pitching is not the ones who should be shouldering the blame lately.

June 10, 201115 yr Big 2nd run. Gomes comes up hacking when the guy can't even throw a strike. Thankfully he threw a wild pitch before he got him out.
