Yeah, idk what you have to do to deserve it these days, ripping the cover off the ball doesn't work? Not to mention they Cozart and Alonso are 1st Round and 2 nd Round picks from big time college programs and are pretty seasoned...Why do we draft these guys?
June 8, 201115 yr The whole point nkufan23 and I are trying to make is we're darn near certain Cozart and Alonso can give the Reds at a bare minimum the production Janish/Renteria & Lewis/Gomes are giving them. So IMO at least, it's a win-win situation with zero risk. You bring them up and they aren't ready for the Show and you still get the same production you're already getting. They produce at all and you've improved the team. Where are we wrong in our thinking? What about Heisey in LF? I would much rather give him a shot than Alonso. As to SS, I am not a Janish fan by any stretch. I don't see now as the time to mess with the middle of the infield and I am not that worried about the Reds offense. I would rather let Cozart keep playing every day in AAA unless there is an injury to Janish or Renteria. Then I bring him up and work him in a couple days a week to see what we have. Otherwise, I bring him up in September and get him AB's then at the big league level.

I agree about Heisey, but Dusty (only God knows why) seems hellbent on making sure he gets no more than 1 start a week.

Heisey will still be on the team if Alonso comes up he will just be a role player like he is now, that's what the organization sees him as...This is a great time to see what Cozart has, he is already 25 and seems to have really figured things out, we need to see what he has before the last month of the season...He has earned a longer audition than one month...

Baseball teams run short a player or two all the time. I am sure if the Reds had to play Rolen, he could go. Renteria is supposed to be ready in the next couple days so what's the damage? Did he miss one game or perhaps two that he would have played in if healthy?

Or how about when the Reds wanted to play Kurt Stillwell at SS over Barry Larkin? I agree. I just brought up Larson in response to nku's reasoning that the Cozart is more seasoned and that he played for a big time college program, plus tears in up in AAA. Larson's resume was identical to that.

And Rolen is always banged up which is why we need Francisco back...He was on the team before getting hurt, so he was in the plans now they need to bring him back...

Larson's resume was identical to that. With these comments there is never justification for bringing up a minor leaguer who's killing it...The question is when do they earn it? Its a great time to see if they belong when your big leaguers are giving you close to nothing at the same time you have aaa guys raking that play the same position..I remember Buster Posey last year coming up and leading the Giants to the pennant last year..
