June 6, 201115 yr What does this team need to get jumpstarted? Health and an upgrade by trade at one of 3 positions. I'm guessing they're good with the D of Janish and Rolen so make it LF
June 6, 201115 yr If the Reds are going to make a trade, I propose packaging Leake and Wood with whoever and get the best starting pitcher they can with that package. I really don't think either of those two have the stuff to be top of the rotation starters. I would rather trade them for a top of the rotation guy. It has to be a top of the rotation level pitcher though. Otherwise hang on and and hope Bailey gets healthy, Volquez can keep it to 3-4 walks per outing and that whichever of Leake/Wood stays in the rotation can tread enough water to be respectable and give the team a chance to win. The Reds' problems are all about starting pitching. I do feel like this is a low point in the season. To give up the runs they did the last two days to a team as bad offensively as the Dodgers have been, losing the game the way they did Saturday and then getting buried today ... this feels like the season low to me.

I totally disagree as far as regular season goes. The starters haven't been close to healthy, but they aren't the problem. The problem is they are terrible offensively at 3 out of 8 positions and those poistions have hit 2nd or 4th all year. That wasn't the case last year. They also have a terrible game manager. They have 4 good offensive players and the cathcers are servicable. The 4 best should hit 1-4 every single game and unless Rolen gets going the catcher should hit 5th.

June 6, 201115 yr They are second in the NL in runs. Offense hasn't been the problem... 12 of the last 18 games they've scored 4 runs or less. That's when they started playing bad and that is a problem.

The pitching numbers are among the worst in baseball. The hitting numbers are among the best. Good observation. Or not. They are losing close games. Period. That is what didn't happen last year. Still good to see the fire Dusty crusade start ramping up in early June...
