June 6, 201115 yr The pitching numbers are among the worst in baseball. The hitting numbers are among the best. Good observation. Or not. They are losing close games. Period. That is what didn't happen last year. Still good to see the fire Dusty crusade start ramping up in early June... Keep pumping year long stats out. They had a really good record 18 games ago. They've scored 4 runs or less 12 of the last 18 games. I never said pitching wasn't an issue, but their issue is they haven't been healthy all year and their supposed ace wasn't good. They have 4 good every day players offensively and their catchers collectively are productive for that position, but not great offensively. One of their 4 good players has more strikeouts and swings and misses than anyone else in MLB. Nothing to see here. Move along...
June 6, 201115 yr Went to Columbus today to catch the Bats...Four guys stood out to me Cozart SS, Alonso LF, Mesoraco C and Francisco 3B...Cozart ripped 2 Doubles with one being a laser off the wall, he's up to .294 on the year...Alonso had 2 hits one being a line drive HR to dead center and his defense in left was actually very good he got awesome reads on some shots that I didn't think he'd get to...Mesoraco had 3 hits with 2 being gap Doubles and threw out a runner with a perfect throw,no d'oh t he could step in for one of our catchers and we wouldn't lose much if one was traded...Lastly Francisco he has a laser arm at 3rd but his bat is why he should be with the Reds, he was spraying the ball all over and had 4 hits with 3 being Doubles, the ball has the sweet sound off his bat much like Bruce...Nobody knows if these guys are answers but it couldn't hurt to inject some fresh blood into this team, mostly id like to see Francisco and Alonso for Janish or Edgar and Gomes...They both might not start everyday but they can't be worse than the guys we have that I mentioned and also on the bench we have 2 more left handed batters, now all we have is Lewis and he is getting the bulk of the starts now...
June 6, 201115 yr Lecure, Maloney and Reineke have 6 stars between them and 0 wins. Cueto has 6 starts and Bailey has 5 and won't go for a while. If they don't get the rest of their starts out of their 6 best pitchers they won't win the division. It's that simple. They obviously need to be better there, but why isn't it an issue that they suck at SS, 3B and LF?
June 6, 201115 yr Willis is making his first.start in a while Tomorrow, if he dominates I think the Reds have to get him up for an audition and see if he has figured out how to pitch at the big league level again...Can't be worse than Wood...

With or without production from those positions.
June 6, 201115 yr They've also given up 7+ runs 7 times in the past 14 games. The pitching should be embarrassed of that stat... I'm sure they are. It doesn't mean they should trade Wood and Leake for 1 pitcher though. They just aren't that good right now. If their pitchers don't get healthy or Volquez can't give them a boost it just isn't their year. I still think if they make a move it should be at SS or LF though.

How exactly do you expect Francisco to replace Janish/Edgar in the lineup?

If their pitchers don't get healthy or Volquez can't give them a boost it just isn't their year. I still think if they make a move it should be at SS or LF though. I never said they should trade anybody (except Brandon Phillips). They simply need their pitching to perform like it did last year.
June 6, 201115 yr Because if they got more quality starts, they'd win at a much higher ratio. With or without production from those positions. Their starters haven't been healthy all year and their pen is overworked. What's the excuse for the 3 out of 8 position players? They just aren't good.
June 6, 201115 yr Their starters haven't been healthy all year and their pen is overworked. What's the excuse for the 3 out of 8 position players? They just aren't good. It doesn't matter about those 3 positions...they're second in the NL in runs scored without any production from them. Like I said, get more quality starts and they'll start winning. It's that simple. I'm not sure what part of that you don't understand.
June 6, 201115 yr I never said they should trade anybody (except Brandon Phillips). They simply need their pitching to perform like it did last year. Someone did and that's how this got started. If they trade Phillips they should trade Votto too. They have Votto inked for 3 years and he's a top 5 player in all of baseball. That's probably their window to win big.

That's probably their window to win big. Why would they trade Votto? That'd be stupid. Brandon Phillips had 3 good weeks this year and is riding that out. His average was like .380 and it's dropped all the way down to .290 and it's only going to get worse. He's lazy, makes 12 million dollars and IMO the Reds could get similiar production from another player. Votto not so much. It got started because you said the starters haven't been the problem. When in fact, they are 98% of the problem.

It's that simple. I'm not sure what part of that you don't understand. I never said the pitching isn't a problem. You and others think scoring 4 runs or less 67% of the time is ok though for the last 18 games. What do you not understand about that?
June 6, 201115 yr How exactly do you expect Francisco to replace Janish/Edgar in the lineup? He wouldn't he would replace one of them on the bench and spell Rolen...There is no one else on the team id get rid of except Gomes and one of the SS, preferably Edgar because Janish can play D and Cairo could spell Janish as good as Edgar because no one could be much worse on d than Edgar...Only other option would be Gomes and Lewis but I think Lewis has more value to the team, Gomes is just a club house cheerleader at this point...So I replace Gomes with Alonso and Edgar with Francisco with Cairo becoming backup SS...
