His average was like .380 and it's dropped all the way down to .290 and it's only going to get worse. He's lazy, makes 12 million dollars and IMO the Reds could get similiar production from another player. Votto not so much. It got started because you said the starters haven't been the problem. When in fact, they are 98% of the problem. Not accurate. I said they aren't "the" problem. They have more than 1 problem. I wouldn't trade Votto but it would be almost as dumb to trade BP. He's by far their best defensive player and either their second or third best overall player. They have 3.5 good pieces on offense and BP's one of them. They need to try to win while they have Votto and moving BP doesn't help that.

Cozart of Valakia could easily replace BP. Obviously they wouldn't make every play BP makes but they could easily hold their own while allowing the Reds to spend 12 Million on other pieces. A team like the Reds can't afford to keep all their good players when they have big contracts and BP is the one that needs to go , IMO. Heck, I'd see what Todd Frazier could do at 2B. If he could be a decent fielder, he'd easily match BP's offensive production.
June 6, 201115 yr It all starts with pitching. The biggest issue has been starting pitching. They have absorbed some injuries there but for a long stretch here they have been getting buried. They have had a run where they simply wore out the bullpen. The bullpen is taxed because of the lack of innings by the starters. Now we are having guys called up most fans have never heard of. When that happens you are bound for trouble. leake is back when he should be still in Louisville working on his craft. Volquez was sent down for punishment and to get his head right...however the Reds are desperate and bringing him back. In addition, they have been playing from behind a bunch. At one stretch the opposing team scored first in 31 of the first 52 games. When Rolen came over from Toronto he produced. Last year he produced for the majority of the season. This year he simply has not. Father time was due to catch up to him. In addition, Johnny Gomes played out of his mind for a month and a half and carried them in May into June. Now he is a part of a silly 3 man rotation in LF. Seriously, give Heisey 2-3 weeks and see what happens. They have been losing close games. This year they have not played smart at all and at times have seemed aloof. The failure of Lewis today of catching that routine fly ball dearly cost them. They haven't been grinding out wins. The Cards and Brewers have been over the last 2-3 weeks. The Reds can make a run but the state of flux in the rotation will make that difficult, plus their stretch of games leading up to the AS break is not easy. Looking back in August, this season may have been lost on that 2-10 run over the last two weeks.
June 6, 201115 yr Author I never said the pitching isn't a problem. You and others think scoring 4 runs or less 67% of the time is ok though for the last 18 games. What do you not understand about that? You keep going on and on about the Reds offense, and yes they have not done as well the last 18 games. However the offense has not been the main problem this year, its the pitching. You say they only have 4 good offensive guys, however unless they are a team that has a huge pay roll, that is about the norm. I think a lot of teams would love to have the offense the Reds have actually. Yes it would be nice to have studs batting one through 8, but that does not happen basically no team has that unless they have that huge payroll. So there is no need to be fixed on that idea, the offense will be fine. Its the pitching that is the problem, because even though the offense has stuggled lately. The pitching has still been even worst and that is saying something.
June 6, 201115 yr Here's how this started and here's what I'm saying. I wouldn't make any trade for pitching. The pitching is an issue obviously. However they need to hope that their health will mprove and Volquez and Arroyo will improve. If they make a trade I would hope it's to address how terrible they are offensively at 3 positions. Everyone thinking there isn't a problem on offense is wrong. Phillips had an outstanding April and Bruce had a career month in May. BP came back to reality and I doubt Bruce has the same kind of June. You can get away with 1 or 2 terrible offensive players, but not 3 IMO especially when 1 is hitting 4th or 5th

Also, looks like Rolen is hurt again. Can't see any other scenario that sees him missing tonight's game.

Im getting ready to watch the DTrain and the Bats for the second consecutive day...Looking to see if Cozart, Francisco and Alonso perform well again today, yesterday it was obvious while I was there that they are better options than what we have currently offensively and just as good defensivly....Looking forward to watching Willis pitch and keeping an eye on location, velocity and movement...

June 6, 201115 yr Im getting ready to watch the DTrain and the Bats for the second consecutive day...Looking to see if Cozart, Francisco and Alonso perform well again today, yesterday it was obvious while I was there that they are better options than what we have currently offensively and just as good defensivly....Looking forward to watching Willis pitch and keeping an eye on location, velocity and movement... Just got back to my car I left after top of 7...Bats were up 5-0...Willis started and it was my first time seeing him this year, he looked good in his first start back from the DL...He has really cleaned up his mechanics and delivery but still has a really high leg kick...His FB was sitting at 92-93 but would touch 96 from time to time...Slider is still filthy, he stuck out 7 and 6 of them were swinging...They only played 7 inning as it is a make up game and the first of a DH...Willis posted a line of 4.2ip, 3h, 3bb, 0er and 7ks, but he was on an 80 pitch count because of it being his first game back...He also got smoked on a line drive and was taken out following that, I am pretty sure he was DL'd for that already once, bad luck...But he looked fine and 2 of the 3 hits he gave up were to the leadoff hitter on infield singles, he also got ejected after leaving the game after chirping about the strike zone, which was terrible he should've had 2 more K's on sliders on the outside corner instead of 2 bb's...Offensively Cozart had 3 more hits, 1 RBI, 1 Steal and played good Defense, he has an 11 game hitting streak going and is over .300...Mesoraco had 2 more hits and 2 more RBI's...Alonso had a hit and another RBI, and his defense was once again more than capable of being average to above average at the big league level...
