Track The NL Central Champion Reds (Week 9)

Featured Replies

My son drives a truck and listens to sirus radio and he told me that it was all over the radio that the Reds are trying to get Bautista (HR King) from the Blue Jays for Homer Bailey and Johnny Gomes and maybe another minor leaguer. They said the Reds would need another roster spot by Fridy.

Sounds like a good trade if they could swing it. Bautista is signed through 2015 with an option for 2016, making $8m this year and due to make $14m per year through the life of the contract. Maybe Toronto doesn't want to pay that much money to him.

Why not???

Not sure. They're not short position players. Why waste an option for 3 days?

It makes more sense to bring up an extra bat for four days then it would to bring up Reineke or Leake and have them sit four games before potentially starting on Friday night.

Agreed but I am not sure if I would waste Frazier unless they are considering keeping him up.

If Lecure is going to start they are short a pitcher. If not they aren't.

UKMF was talking about the Philly series. They are not short a pitcher for this series. The Reds will make another move for a pitcher before the series in Atlanta.

How are they wasting him?

How many times can a player be demoted?

You guys need to bring back your PANIC button. The Reds are imploding quicker than old Riverfront Stadium.

Your imput is always valued PS . If nothing else it is comedy relief. BTW- Have the Dodgers been raffled off yet?:jump:

It's the years that count not the individual call ups. Here is what I found:

If a player is on the 40-man roster but not on the active major league roster, he is said to be on optional assignment—his organization may freely move him between the major league club and the minor league club. If a player is on the 40-man roster and not the active 25 man roster for any part of more than three seasons (in which he spent 20 or more total days of service in the minors), he is out of options and may not be assigned to the minors without first clearing waivers. However, if a player has less than 5 years of professional experience, he may be optioned to the minors in a fourth season without being subject to waivers. If a major league player is ineligible for free agency and "has options" remaining, his team may option him to a minor league team without consequence. This is usually what is meant when players are "sent down" to the minors. Likewise, when a player on the 40-man roster is added to the active major league roster, he is "called up" to the majors.

That made my head hurt.

Same person that wrote the Internal Revenue code?

That was pretty rough to watch. A Phillies fan didn't vomit on me though, so I've got that going for me. Moral victory: Habib.

Okay you asked, here we go lets compare numbers...

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB K AVG

Gomes 148 511 77 136 24 3 18 86 5 3 39 123 .266

Lewis 110 428 70 112 31 5 8 36 17 6 38 104 .262

So there are the numbers now lets consider that Lewis batted lead off for the Jays, while Gomes batted in the heart of the order with some pretty solid protection and guys on base...Other than that the numbers Lewis put up look even or better to me than Gomes in 38 less games than Gomes...Only 7 less Runs for Lewis, 7 more 2B for Lewis, 2 more 3B for Lewis, 12 more SB for Lewis, only 1 less walk for Lewis and an even AVG...So Gomes had more HR's and RBI's but Lewis isn't a HR guy he is a leadoff guy and also the Reds only LH Hitter potentially on the bench...Gomes also did most of his damage at GABP...Everyone has there own opinion and mines not even based on these numbers above but Lewis is probably more valuable for this ball club right now...

:lol: Gomes was far more productive. You should be spindoc.

Neither was terribly productive last year, but both were used essentially as everyday players. Used as a platoon, they could be decent.

Barring a trade I can't imagine bringing Frazier up for 3 days and then sending him back.

I think they might still send Gomes packing, possibly as part of a trade...and Frazier will stay

If Lecure is going to start in Atlanta which is what you said they are short a pitcher for the Philly series. If someone in Louisville is making the start I agree with you.
