What he said afterward is going to win him a lot of friends in the clubhouse. “Everybody has to step up,” he said, “start to score some runs. In the last five games, how many runs have we scored? Like 13? That’s not the way we were playing last year. We’re better than that.” Not what the rest of the club wants to hear on a day when you give up seven runs in less than three innings. Volquez may be in denial. Reds manager Dusty Baker said are “mulling over” Volquez’s future in the rotation. May 22, 201115 yr I see no downside to DFA for Gomes at this point.Gomes has a place on a major league roster because of his ability to hit left-handed pitching, and that is still of value. The Reds are stretching him beyond his abilities by asking him to be an everyday player.

May 23, 201115 yr This team is going to be very lucky to do better than 3-7 on the road trip. I still can't believe the offense has gone so south so quickly. They haven't hit since the Cardinals series. If the Cubs hadn't completely given them 2 wins they'd be riding a 7 game skid with no end in sight. Gomes has to be a strictly vs. LHP guy from here on out. Volquez needs to be gone. Not only can't he pitch at a major league level he's now resorted to playing the blame game. Newsflash Edinson, you suck and don't deserve a major league roster spot.
