May 23, 201115 yr Thank God Volquez refused to sign the multi-year deal the Reds offered him. He's been behind in all 10 games he's started this season. No way I troll him back out there again any time soon. I said this at one time last season about Volquez. People kept talking about how good Volquez was, however Volquez has had only one good season in his career. It looks like that one good season was the exception rather than the rule. He has great stuff, and hopefully he can figure it out and be that guy again. However it looks more like that one season was the best we are going to see. Hopefully he proves some of us wrong!

I'm not so sure someone would really want him but they can have them if they want him. If he didn't take the assignment he would walk away from about $1.2 Mil. He would only get the league minimum from some other team.
May 23, 201115 yr I don't think they will carry 6 outfielders. Currently they're carrying one less pitcher for all argument. He needs to go. For the record I think it will be Lewis. I'd hope it was that passionate Gomes but alas, methinks he is a Dusty fave.

Lewis had his best years and got plenty of playing time in SF wasn't Dusty the manager for SF then...If so I would think Dusty and Lewis have a good relationship...
May 23, 201115 yr Author Edgar might be the one left behind. Per John Fay Assuming the report that Todd Frazier is coming up is true, the question is what will the corresponding move be. Not an easy call. Frazier plays left, third and first. He can play shortstop and second as well. Fred Lewis and Jonny Gomes would be candidates to be designated for assignment, if Frazier is coming up to play left. But Dusty Baker said on his show with Marty Brennaman yesterday that he assured Gomes he is part of the plan. Lewis is the only left-handed bench bat. One thing that I thought nothing of yesterday, but now I’m wondering about: Edgar Renteria left right after the game and was not in a suit (required for the team plane). G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB K AVG Gomes 148 511 77 136 24 3 18 86 5 3 39 123 .266 Lewis 110 428 70 112 31 5 8 36 17 6 38 104 .262 So there are the numbers now lets consider that Lewis batted lead off for the Jays, while Gomes batted in the heart of the order with some pretty solid protection and guys on base...Other than that the numbers Lewis put up look even or better to me than Gomes in 38 less games than Gomes...Only 7 less Runs for Lewis, 7 more 2B for Lewis, 2 more 3B for Lewis, 12 more SB for Lewis, only 1 less walk for Lewis and an even AVG...So Gomes had more HR's and RBI's but Lewis isn't a HR guy he is a leadoff guy and also the Reds only LH Hitter potentially on the bench...Gomes also did most of his damage at GABP...Everyone has there own opinion and mines not even based on these numbers above but Lewis is probably more valuable for this ball club right now...
