I am tired or hearing that UK got a raw deal or cheated or whatever. Fact of the matter is if they would have taken care of business on the road then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

 

Personally I'd rather them win the championship by beating Syracuse, OSU, etc. I mean I think they can play with the best and it's time for them to do it.

This is my type of thread. You guys know how I am. If I could chose the bracket I'd have UK play Duke, UNC, Kansas, Ohio State all in the same tourney. I don't care how tough the road is, just get it done and don't whine about it. If UK loses, well that has to be good enough.

^ I agree. Regardless of Seeding your going to have to beat good teams to win a title, if Kentucky isn't good enough to do that then they are not deserving of winning a title, no team is. Even though some get more cup cakes than others on the way there, eventually everyone has to play a team who is playing their best ball of the year. Kentucky's hot right now, I would much rather see them play and perhaps knock off a favorite opposed to getting beat out by an average team. In otherwords, as the old saying goes, to be the best you have to beat the best.

Yep, because if Duke had a cupcake walk to the Championship and won then all you'd see is how easy they had it and how tough of a road "team x" had.

Ohio State has almost as little depth as the Cats, and if Kentucky can keep either Sullinger or Diebler in check, would have a good chance at pulling the upset.

 

I'm not as worried about Sullinger, as I am our guys doubling him or sagging off shooters to much and giving guys like Diebler wide open looks. I feel like our team does that quite a bit, even against lesser opponents. It's going to be a tough matchup, but they gotta get there first.

What about the matchup issues OSU might have with UK? I know OSU played a few teams outside of conference, however they probably haven't seen as team as athletic as UK in awhile either. In the Big 10 OSU played a lot of good defensive teams, but not many teams that could play good defense and actually score too. One of the teams in the Big 10 that could score and play defense, they did lose once too in Purdue. So yes OSU could give UK matchups problems, but UK should be able to give them some matchup problems too. Who knows if both teams will even get to that game, because both teams will have tough second round games.

I don't even think KY will be playing WVU I look for Clemson to beat them.

Miller won't be guarding Sullinger.

 

Has Harrelson or Jones shut down a post player of his caliber this year?

 

I'm a big UK fan, just try to look at things realistically and if you've seen the Big Buckeye play you know where I'm coming from in my question.

 

I do not think anyone who has not played Ohio State this year has played a big man the caliber of Sullinger. IMO he is the best big man in college basketball this year. On the other hand Harrelson did practice against Cousins, who I thought was much better than Sullinger, so I do not think he will be overwhelmed by his size, strength, or athleticism. Is Harrelson better than Sullinger by no stretch of the imagination, but I do think he will be able to hold his own against him.

There is a certain contingent of UK fans that complain about their draw every year without exception. I did think they deserved a 3 seed, but that didn't happen. With regards to our actual draw, I thought we came out alright. Of the 13 seeds, I'd much rather face Princeton than Oakland or Belmont. And, looking ahead, I think West Virginia was seeded too high. I'd prefer to face them over any of the other 5 seeds if given the choice. Doesn't mean we couldn't lose either of those games, but I don't think Kentucky got any scary matchups in the first weekend.

 

After that, who expects anything remotely easy in the Round of 16? Once you advance to that point, you're going to have to beat really good teams the rest of the way.

 

And, I'll be honest, as #1's go, Ohio State may be a better matchup for us than the others. I think they're better than Kansas and Pitt at the least.

 

UK and OSU are very similar. Both have small rotations (6-7 man), both have good perimeter shooters and athletic, rangy wing guys. The two advantages Ohio State has is Sullinger v. Harrison and experience. No doubt Sullinger is better than Harrison, specifically on the offensive end. And, the Buckeyes, while they play a few talented freshmen, do not rely on them to the extent UK does. After Sullinger, OSU's next three top scorers are seniors. Contrast that with UK who is lead by 3 freshmen.

 

It's a tall order, but in a one-and-done scenario, Kentucky has a realistic chance to advance. And, if they can beat Ohio State they can certainly advance to the Final Four.

 

They've got a chance. At this point in the season, that's good enough for me. Either way, I've enjoyed this 2010-11 edition of Wildcats. They've had some ups and downs, but I think they've improved all season and are playing their best basketball at the right time. It should be a fun tournament.

I would love to see U.K. beat OSU but their inside game(Sullinger) imo would be too much.Cats inside game has been weak all season, has improved lately but still would have no answer for Sullinger. OSU also has some very good shooters so U.K. couldn't collapse on Sullinger, the 3's would kill U.K..

If UK ends up playing OSU I think the best bet is to let Sullinger get his and lock down the perimeter. Dont let Diebler and lighty bury you with a bunch of 3 balls and you are going to have a shot to win. When guarding Sully you cant go fouling a bunch either just put your arms straight up and make him go through you or over you.

 

 

The best option would probably be to send Vargas in as the goon to take out Sullinger :sssh:.
