9th Region 2011

I have been waiting!! Why is the greatest question ever asked. The best baseball players in the school are not allowed to play baseball this year if they go on spring break. So the so called baseball gods think they can win with out the upper class man.

This could be a thread in its self. Senior year for kids who cant play baseball and the rest of the distric and region is now given a chance in baseball and NOT because of football.

Please tell me that a kid isn't passing up his senior year of baseball because of spring break.

Why is this just an issue with Highlands? Every other team in NKY knows that you don't take spring break if you're on the baseball team.

I would have to agree with the coach on this one. Bottom line......what's more important, baseball (and your TEAM) or spring break.

For years at HHS seniors have always gone a group trip for spring break and there was never any problems. Now this year there is after everyone had already made plans. Thats the problem not that "hey you go on spring break you dont play" just how it was handled and the timeing of. Come on last year they took the kids who didnt go and went to Gatlinburge and played 3 games. You mean to tell me that those three games in the beging of the season means something. Lets think about this how many games do you need to win 6!!! Dist Reg Sec State.

So if the Football players wanted to miss the first game of the season, a non district game that honestly means nothing as really only the district games mean anything, you would except Dale to say sure it's okay?

Exactly right TOG. Good for Coach Baioni. Unbelieveable how two sports at the same school are treated so much differently...

Facts are important. Here are a few:

1 - Timing: This was announced and on the HHS Baseball website during or, at the latest, the week after Spring Break 2010. This point was made clear to anyone who wanted to listen and publicly disseminated. Anyone who was considering playing baseball in 2011 KNEW that they would not be going on Spring Break.

2 - To my knowledge, no one has asked the HHS Coach if they can go on Spring Break with a church mission to rebuild homes in Haiti. I would be interested in how he would respond.

3 - You are correct that the "Holy Grail" of Spring Break in Fort Thomas has been preserved for years with the HHS baseball program. The current Coach apparently believes he can build a stronger program by changing that and fielding a squad of players where baseball is a higher priority. It is always tough for those caught in that transition year(s). However, if that is the vision for HHS baseball, that is what the Coach is hired to provide. I, for one, will support the decision.

HHS may struggle in the short term with some of these losses, but the future of the program will benefit from these tough decisions.

I can't believe I am going to agree with you TOG...There should not be two different standards for two different sports at HHS. If the seniors want to take a trip have them take it in June..The problem is that it's not only the seniors it's all grades...If you are really a baseball player than you would rather stay and play baseball..I applaud Jeremy for trying to break the cycle. The spring break garbage needs to end..

This is one I just don't get? When you are given an opportunity to be part of a team there shoud be an understanding that a certain level of commitment and sacrifice is part of that deal. You only get so many opportunities in high school to be a part of a team and if one week of spring break is worth more to you than that then that is on the student athlete and not the program or the coach.

No other quality baseball team in NKY has to deal with this spring break stuff. Until Highlands figures it out they will be on the outside looking in on the diamond.

Nothing good can come out of kids going on spring break, asking for trouble, all we have to do is look at the past.

Good for Coach Baioni of HHS! He bleeds Bluebird Blue and anytime HHS doesn't want a coach of his ability, I am sure there are plenty of local Ninth Region HS that would hire him in a heart beat to run their Baseball programs!

I agree he has great passion for the game. Jeremy knows baseball there is no doubt about that..

He is a great coach and a great guy just like his Dad.

C'mon RB, re-think this, I can name 20 reasons. These comparisons of the two sports at Highlands are like comparing FB teams in Kenton Cty to Highlands, just not fair, right guys? DF5

Lol...If things don't change baseball will never get over the hump..The biggest problem is that the parents want to go on Spring Break as much if not more than the kids. Until the mentality of the Ft.Thomas parents changes we will be talking about this 3yrs from now..But I agree football is the king and always will be in Caketown..I just want kids and parents to get serious about baseball as well..There is no reason the Birds can't be successful in both..
