This has to be one of the worst rules. The KHSAA should do the right thing and step in and make everybody seeded. Blind draws are not fair and are silly.

The 38th district is not seeded which resulted in Pendleton County and Harrison County, the two best teams in the district, drawing each other five straight years (but not last year.) I believe Deming was district runner up five straight years.

Districts should be seeded. However, even if they're not, KHSAA needs to at least make all districts the same. Either make them all seeded or all a blind draw!

For those complaining about ugly regular-season games if seeding is mandated: The weak team can always take a forfeit the way Williamsburg did in protest of South Laurel moving into their district during the realignment from five or so years ago.

And I will continue to disagree wholeheartedly on the need for classifying basketball. The numbers game isn't as big a factor as in football and track, so that's not really a valid comparison. Thank God for Shelby Valley winning the Sweet 16 this past year, because it proves that your school doesn't have to have 1,000 students to be competitive on a statewide basis.

Actually Coach Haynes wanted to only have to play each district opponent 1 time insted of 2. This was his protest and reason for forfeiting.

They don't have to play each team in their district twice and still seed. In the 40th district. GRC only plays Bourbon and Paris once and that is the district seeded game. GRC and Montgomery Co play each other twice and assign pre-season which game will be the seeded game.

Was not aware of this. Thanks for clarifying.

With consolidation issues causing alignment headaches in some part of the state, I'd like to see the KHSAA do away with district tournaments and have one region tournament.

1.) Seed the tournament. You are required to play every team in the region at least once with that record to determine seeding. You can play a team more than once for rivalry purposes, but only the first game counts toward the seeding.

2.) Top four seeds get a bye so there is no 1 v. 16 seeded games.

3.) The region teams split the tournament proceeds evenly

4.) Sites can continue to rotate per the current region tourney site agreement (or) First two rounds are at the highest seed's home court and those two teams split the gate. You could implement a neutral court for the quarterfinals, SF, and finals.

5.) Have the regular season end on the Tuesday of the final week. Start the region tournament on Saturday so that you can play 6 or so first round games on that Saturday and continue play Monday, Tuesday, etc.

6.) This makes the region tournament a true weeklong event

Whether the KHSAA wants to admit it or not, with the trend of consolidation becoming more common, it's time to class all sports in Kentucky to include basketball

...and ruin what many people feel is the best state basketball tournament in the country? They began the all "A" tournament to accomodate the smaller schools. Ask the folks in the great state of Indiana how they feel about classification and the changes made to their state tournament.

Hmmm ... sounds like the story's changed in the past few years from what I was told.

That is, if any of them actually care any more. Suffice to say, there are no crowds of 40,000-plus showing up to watch any of the final games the way they used to before the class split.

Exactly, from what you were TOLD.

I think I opt for the "luck" sequence: 1.) the KHSAA may be the most inept organization on the planet so do we want them involved deeper than they already are and 2.) if your the "best" team in your district you'll win regardless of the draw. I know the basis for doing something different is getting as many of the "best" teams in to region play, etc. but again I always believe the best team wins 99.9% of the time regardless and if a small school sneaks into the regional and gets a nice "pay check" good for them. Leave it alone.

Then why even play the games? Just annoint a winner and advance them to the region level.

I got no problem with seeding. I wish they would divide into 2 classes. Still have sweet 16 with 8 from each class. 4 games Wednesday, 4 Thursday, 4 Friday and 2 Championships Saturday. Won't ever happen but makes some sence.

I feel pretty good about my source or I wouldn't have posted it.

To the bolded, I disagree. You always have some upsets every year, the best team dosn't always win, and especially at 99.9 %. Also take Hazard and Perry Central for an example. Both usually top teams in their district, with the draw,( if they draw each other) one is going to stay home. Each could win on a given night.

We love it!

They should be seeded.

It makes the district games during the season count.

The revenue of the regions should be shared by all, not just the teams qualifying. No way a 'have not' should be playing in the regional unless they earned the spot.

Thanks to Stan Steidel and a few of his cronies there is an All A tourney (though unsanctioned) for the small schools. In NKY there are also 3 classes in the NKAC that produces 3 "champions." So there are several chances for a small school to proclaim themselves as champions.

Seldom, if ever does a two seed out of a district win it all, but they can sometimes provide a match up issue and upset a 1 seed.

There's been several years where Holmes has beaten Covcath or vice versa in the district championship as a 2 seed and I believe in 04/05, Holmes won the region tourney as a 2 seed.
