Ok I guess we have to go through the All A again for those that do not understand it.

 

First it was not started by the state. It is an independent tournament. Second it accomodates many AA schools as well based on the enrollment policies for the tourney.

 

Third it is in the middle of the season and is not recognized by the state as ANYTHING.

 

The state tourney is a great tournament but.............do not call for "seeding all districts" when you are going to not classify. That is all I am saying.

TAC...............ok so you are saying a beechwood does not deserve to play the best teams in 1A in the state if they are the best in the NKAC III?

 

Revenue sharing takes place in the 10th region and works very well. The 9th does not to my knowledge have that in place. I know that NCC and Highlands proposed that the district split the regional money shares in exchange for a vote to seed. That was shot down by the other three in the district.

Bottom line, you should seed. If you don't think you can compete with the big boys, then why participate in the KHSAA.

The KHSAA is meant for all schools not just those that are large................................Seriously those of you that constantly say "if you can't compete with the big boys......................" such a crock of a line. High schools and colleges classify schools into levels for a reason.......................Just because the KHSAA chooses not to in several sports does not make it right...........it is wrong. By your statements then you think Thomas More and UK should be in the same level of athletics.

I want my daughter to play against the best and if that is because it is a larger school so be it. I would rather her know that later in life she's going to face the same obstacles that she would when her smaller school plays a bigger school. I don't want to teach her that, "Hey, if the going gets to tough honey, I'll ley you quit and we'll find someone you can compete better against and maybe even win."

 

And if you think it is wrong that the KHSAA doesn't classify in basketball, then don't participate in it. Go another route. There are lots of leagues around that teaches friendship and harmony and doesn't keep score. But I won't go that route because I want my daughter to play the best, compete against the best and hopefully someday become one of the best and she's sure isn't going to accomplish that feat by sugarcoating everything for her. :sssh::thumb::idunno::ylsuper:

Whether the All 'A' is recognized by the state or not is no reason to see it as invalid. It is what it is, and it is now many years strong, and it doesn't appear that it will be leaving anytime soon. It has no doubt sufficed in giving small schools an opportunity to play in an exciting statewide tournament where the big schools are not invited to partake. It is modeled just like the post season tourney in that all regions are involved ending with a Sweet 16 style tourney. Even though some AA teams are involved, good A teams can and have won this tournament (See: Shelby Valley - 2010). The All 'A' classic was a brilliant creation that kept the post season Sweet 16 traditionally pure and exciting. (See Indiana in how classes have made their post season sub par to what it once was - We don't need to make the same mistake and we have them to thank for showing us how it ruined things there). I don't see that seeding instantly would call for a need to classify. There again small schools can excel in the Sweet 16. (See: Shelby Valley - 2010).

The KHSAA should make them all the same. 1 and 2 should only play only in the final.

Then why even play the games? Just annoint a winner and advance them to the region level.

 

I think you missed my point. Let them draw and let them play. There is no objective way to seed the tournaments to assure the 2 best teams out of each district make it to the regional and again can the KHSAA be relied upon to be objective? What's the next step? Making sure you get 10 of the state tournament teams out of the 7th and 11th regions since they annually have most of the top 20 teams? I agree the current system could be better but how do you make a "full proof" guaranteed system? I don't see that happening so why change it?

1918 Lexington won the Sweet 16. Was it the Sweet 16 then? 1960 Flaget, 1970 Male, 1982 Laurel Co. When did 64 districts, 16 regions begin. I CAN'T remember any teams in SEKY seeding in the 70's and 80's. When and what districts started seeding first?

Goahead, not sure what you mean. I was saying that there are several 'championships' to be had. A "Beechwood" could win the NKAC, All A district, All A region, All A state, 35th district, 9th region and the state tourney.

Who says you are not playing against the best when you classify you are still playing the best at the level of your school's enrollment..........and as far as leaving the KHSAA that is an inappropriate line. Again it is meant for ALL schools and ALL schools pay the dues.
