Someone brought up in another thread why play a team year after year when you get blown out of the gym all the time. The reason is that the district they play in is seeded. Should didtricts be seeded?

Districts should be seeded in conjunction with the KHSAA classifying basketball. Until they classify basketball then the seeding of districts is a joke. No school that has a 9-12 enrollment of 200 should be competing with a school with a 9-12 enrollment of 1,200.

Personally I think districts should be seeded, however, I think the bigger issue is that it should be uniform for all districts. Right now some seed and some don't, which is wrong.

Absolutely they should be seeded. After all, that's the only way to make the regular season games count for something. To make the postseason pairings by a blind draw is simply ridiculous to me. I've had this argument with a coach of a Class A school before. He would have rather had it left up to luck, where his "bad" teams might get a favorable pairing (by having the top two teams match up on the other side of the bracket), than to absolutely know he would get one of those two top spots when he had a "good" team. (As fate would have it, when he had one of his best teams in 10 years, the blind draw paired him against not only the top team in the district...but, also a regional and even state-favorite. Needless to say, they lost.)

The ONLY way I see a blind draw being allowable, is if you ONLY allow the district champion to move on to the regional tournament. Then, you can say, to be the best, you've got to beat the rest. It wouldn't matter (as much) as to when you played each other...sooner or later, you're going to have to beat the other good team(s). Which is why I'm okay with the way the regional tournament and state tournament do their pairings.

I wish KHSAA would mandate that all districts seed for the tournament.

Seeding some times makes for bad regular season games.

Not the issue. If you do not seed, the regular season becomes meaningless. For example, if you have two teams that are 25-5 and two that are 5-25, and you do a blind draw with the two 25 win teams in the semifinals, a 5-25 teams gets rewarded with a berth in the regional tournament. A couple of bad regular season games well offsets a poor team getting rewarded by luck. JMO

It might not be most schools issue, but it is the reason some districts don't seed.

It is just ugly when an inferior team makes the region from an unseeded district. Why would any team want to take a 50 point smacking just to say I made the region? This rule needs to change.

Add to that, the team that draws the inferior team in the regional basically has a night off, and can be a little more rested further in the tournament. The whole system is flawed.

Agreed, but also makes for a better regional tournament.

Our district(the 45th district) seeds. You mean to tell me there are districts that don't seed? Their district tourney is a blind draw? Is this correct?

According to the KHSAA site (http://www.khsaa.org/basketball/districtregion/districtpostseasonsiteselectionplans.pdf) 9 districts do not seed. It shows districts 7, 36, 38, 39, 43, 49, 54, 55, and 61 do not seed.

36th is a blind draw. Last season the two top teams drew each other in the 1st round. It's a joke.

Ok it is easy for everybody to get on here and bash the schools that prefer not to seed but......................you do not ask football teams frm 1A schools to play Trinity so why are you making them do that in basketball? Seeding is fine as long as you classify (4 classes preferably). But again we are asking schools to not only to be put with schools 5 times their size but to also play them in the regular season and then play them again in the district when you seed. The blind draw allows those schools to not have to play them in regular season if they so choose and possibly avoid the largest schools in the district draw. Why.............................would a school the size of Dayton (just an example) vote to seed and be stuck playing Highlands and NCC in regular season as well as having to play one of those two every year in the first round of the district tourney. Those of you criticizing need to realize that schools need to do what is best for them and not what is best for your school.
