Absolutely they should be seeded. After all, that's the only way to make the regular season games count for something. To make the postseason pairings by a blind draw is simply ridiculous to me. I've had this argument with a coach of a Class A school before. He would have rather had it left up to luck, where his "bad" teams might get a favorable pairing (by having the top two teams match up on the other side of the bracket), than to absolutely know he would get one of those two top spots when he had a "good" team. (As fate would have it, when he had one of his best teams in 10 years, the blind draw paired him against not only the top team in the district...but, also a regional and even state-favorite. Needless to say, they lost.)

The ONLY way I see a blind draw being allowable, is if you ONLY allow the district champion to move on to the regional tournament. Then, you can say, to be the best, you've got to beat the rest. It wouldn't matter (as much) as to when you played each other...sooner or later, you're going to have to beat the other good team(s). Which is why I'm okay with the way the regional tournament and state tournament do their pairings.

Don't most play home and home with others in their district? If so, that is 6 games in most cases. Who would Mason Co. have to drop to play their 6 seeded games?

NO seeded games is one game alternating sights every year.................

Look at the 44th District with Madison Central, Madison Southern, Berea, and Model. This district does not seed, and because of this Southern and Central many times play in the first round of the district letting Berea or Model play in the region and that is a joke. Seeding should be mandated because sometimes the most deserving teams may not get to go.

Our district(the 45th district) seeds. You mean to tell me there are districts that don't seed? Their district tourney is a blind draw? Is this correct?

In a lot of cases, bigger schools in a district w/ smaller schools don't want to have to schedule two yearly games per small school. Take Mason County, for instance. They're in a district with three other small schools (Bracken, Augusta, St. Patrick) & I'm assuming they don't want to tie up six of their games each year with them.

It works the other way too, I'm sure, with smaller schools not wanting to have to play the top team in the district year in and year out.

For me, I'm in favor of seeding districts, simply because I place a bigger emphasis on the regional tournament. I want to see the best teams playing in the regional as opposed to the first round of the district.

Ok it is easy for everybody to get on here and bash the schools that prefer not to seed but......................you do not ask football teams frm 1A schools to play Trinity so why are you making them do that in basketball? Seeding is fine as long as you classify (4 classes preferably). But again we are asking schools to not only to be put with schools 5 times their size but to also play them in the regular season and then play them again in the district when you seed. The blind draw allows those schools to not have to play them in regular season if they so choose and possibly avoid the largest schools in the district draw. Why.............................would a school the size of Dayton (just an example) vote to seed and be stuck playing Highlands and NCC in regular season as well as having to play one of those two every year in the first round of the district tourney. Those of you criticizing need to realize that schools need to do what is best for them and not what is best for your school.

I don't think anyone is chiding Dayton for voting to seed. I think the issue is with the fact that it is an option. I would have much less of a problem with this if the loser of the Dist championship game did not go to the Regionals.

The KHSAA should go to either all seed or all draw.

If the KHSAA does go to a blind draw, then only the winner of the District should move on,

NO TEAM SHOULD EVER BE REWARDED, FOR BEING LUCKY IN THE DRAW!

Districts should be seeded in conjunction with the KHSAA classifying basketball. Until they classify basketball then the seeding of districts is a joke. No school that has a 9-12 enrollment of 200 should be competing with a school with a 9-12 enrollment of 1,200.
I agree

With consolidation issues causing alignment headaches in some part of the state, I'd like to see the KHSAA do away with district tournaments and have one region tournament.

1.) Seed the tournament. You are required to play every team in the region at least once with that record to determine seeding. You can play a team more than once for rivalry purposes, but only the first game counts toward the seeding.

2.) Top four seeds get a bye so there is no 1 v. 16 seeded games.

3.) The region teams split the tournament proceeds evenly

4.) Sites can continue to rotate per the current region tourney site agreement (or) First two rounds are at the highest seed's home court and those two teams split the gate. You could implement a neutral court for the quarterfinals, SF, and finals.

5.) Have the regular season end on the Tuesday of the final week. Start the region tournament on Saturday so that you can play 6 or so first round games on that Saturday and continue play Monday, Tuesday, etc.

6.) This makes the region tournament a true weeklong event

Whether the KHSAA wants to admit it or not, with the trend of consolidation becoming more common, it's time to class all sports in Kentucky to include basketball

I say do away with the districts and have one big Regional Tournament. Seed the top 4-8 teams. It would make it more fair and fun for everyone. I get tired of seeing the same teams playing each other in the District Tournaments. Maybe the seeded teams could be the regular season district champs.

How many teams are in a region?

How many teams are in a region?

Some with 15. A couple with 20. Most with 17

Not a bad idea Scribe except for the bolded part which is never going to happen and should never happen and is only alot of wishful thinking by some.

They don't have to play each team in their district twice and still seed. In the 40th district. GRC only plays Bourbon and Paris once and that is the district seeded game. GRC and Montgomery Co play each other twice and assign pre-season which game will be the seeded game.

GS........why should basketball, baseball, volleyball also not get classified?
