Congrats to CovCath. Hey, they may not have won but they did what nobody else has been able to do in the last 7 wks and that is give them a game. Well, its simple. It has everything to do with the loss of 2 yr starter and Jr. Josh Quillen at Outside LBer for the season after sustaining a season ending ankle injury, the Coaches were forced to move PreSeason Ky Defensive player of the yr Austin Abner from his CB position to LB and then move in a very inexperience group of young kids in to fill his spot and you have some exposure. Quillen doesnt get hurt and nobody throws on Highlands the way some are thinking they are. BTW, the yound DB's that have stepped in for the Birds are doing an excellent job with Carter New coming up with a hugh pick last nite with CC driving. Abner has a pick last nite from his LB spot and Loflands late pick in the end of the game seals the win. Seidl was laying the wood and ppl say the Birds are soft in the secondary. Yeah, there were some holes, but for obvious reasons I wont go into why? For those bashing the HHS Defense, a quick reminder. I believe HHS Defense was on the field last nite for 34 mins and gave up 1 Td. CovCath has a great, not average but great kicker who gets 3 fgs and the special teams td. Not bad for a bunch of Defensive backs that were exposed. Offense takes care of the football and Highlands wins this one by a bunch. Go Birds 20n10

 

2 FG's and the Colonels had 3 int's and a blocked punt as well. If they catch the pass right before the end of the half, then the end of the game you are going for a tying FG. That would have changed everything. As far as injuries, I do think that Compton going out was a big reason HHS had trouble running the ball. However CovCath had 2 starting LB's and a starting DB, starting Punter and the #2 reciever all miss the game. I just hope CovCath can beat Dixie, win the opening round of the playoff's, shock the JC team and get another shot at the Bluebirds.

I think that both teams really played vanilla offensively. In a rematch, I believe that Towles will be given the keys to the Ferarri and be able to punch it into 5th gear. I'd look for CovCath to find ways to get Gray in space more. That said, I have to question why CovCath didn't rush the punt at the end of the 4th quarter w/ Highlands punting from midfield? Why did they set up the return. They had had a lot of luck getting penetration on extra points, and teh snaps weren't very crisp on Highlands punts all night. Instead, they set up a return, Highlands gets an incredible bounce and were able to milk 3 seconds more off the clock waiting for the official to blow the whistle. This is the second time that I watched CovCath this year. They have improved by leaps and bounds when it comes to tackling, w/ the exception of 2 plays last night. In the rematch, however, I don't see them staying w/in 2 TDs of Highlands. Last night everything was set up for the win, and they didn't do it. I don't see Highlands sitting back on D in the post season.

Your stay may be short if you don't read the rules. #4 might be a good place to start. Take that stuff somewhere else.

As a side note...student senate for both schools got together and called this a pink out for cancer. Both schools print and sell tshirts and Highlands prints theirs to say Beat cancer and Cov Cath. They may have won but displayed a total lack of class on that one.

 

Who Cares? What's wrong with wanting to beat both? Anyways Sounds like the good guys had a decent showing in this one. I hope they're ready for the rematch in the playoffs!

I've checked this thread at least a dozen times waiting for LN's post game summary. You'd think he'd feel some sort of moral obligation to the bluebird faithful to post within a reasonable period of time (2 -4 hours) post end of game. I've already got my dad who coached high school ball and brother who played for the birds post game summary but still can't feel secure putting last nights game to rest until I get LN's synopsis. Guess he feels like he's got more important things to do. Probably watching his kid play for the "praying colonels" today. Guess the waiting will have to continue.

On a side note, the QB for the Colonels the last time they beat the Birds, Josh Bleser, is on ESPN this evening punting for Louisville against Cincy.
