So what should Highlands mentality be, lose to Cov Cath and have cancer? You are the first person that I met that is a supporter of losing to their own rival and promoting cancer. Promoting cancer is a total lack of class.

 

Bit my tongue on the other responses on the tshirt issue and respect the opposing view to this . But cannot ignore this post. If you honestly interpreted the original message to indicate that anyone should be promoting cancer, you should be concerned with ignorance, not lack of class.

What is wrong with the shirts? They are promoting Breast Cancer awareness and you said that the t-shirts are a lack of class. So what is wrong with a t-shirt that promotes awarness of a worthy cause? I think bashing the promotion of awareness of Breast Cancer is low and classless. But you can go ahead and bash it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Exactly the same thing we were wondering. The kick into the end zone negated any advantage that they might have had other than preventing the runback, but runbacks are flukey anyway. Seemed to me you'd want to press the advantage in that situation, especially with Big Mo on your side on the road.

Let me first say that the Highlands Defense did an outstanding job last night. However, Cov. Cath played conservative in the red zone on 4th and short when they were driving seemingly at will against Highlands outside of the red zone. Their drives were long and clock chewing. They chewed up nearly 1/2 of the 2nd qtr on one drive alone. CCH shot themselves in the foot. They were the better team last night offensively.

Patrick had a great game. Compton was very strong as well. Highlands wasn't flat and no excuses are to be made for the close call. I think Streeter and True are two great backs. Abner, Seidl and Bruns had some great tackles last night, too. Cov. Cath was much more aggressive and all the credit goes to them for forcing the turnovers. Their D line was pushing Highlands around like rag dolls in the 2nd half. I'm not sure what the fabric of this team is, but there are some obvious kinks in the armor. I look for a rough road ahead for the Bluebirds now b/c teams see them as beatable. This game has given new life to all upcoming 5a opponents. After last night, the title is up for grabs and very far from a sure thing. When CCH scored to get within 7, the Bluebird offense froze on their next drive 3 and out. They were obviously in unchartered water and seemed to unravel offensively after that....Can't say I blame them. These kids haven't tasted anything close to defeat in several years. Their title hopes hinge on the team leadership. Will this defeat galvanize or tear apart? Should be one heckuva November in Kentucky.

I'm sure it was considered. The speculation by people I respect was that Dave decided to push them back to the 20, hope for another defensive stop, and get good field position.

The only thing that was not unexpected was HHS 80 yard score on their first play. CCH passing set up their running nicely. HHS D was playing reactionary. CCH's plan was very effective. A 2nd half drop of a 3rd down pass by HHS in front of their bench at the 25 was pivital. HHS put no pressure on Burr, but CCH picked up momentum in their harassment of Towles as the game progressed. From my perspective, the stripes made some strange calls. Was the HHS receiver really in bounds on the TD catch? Wasn't Streeter down before loosing the ball? When HHS was called for interference on the interception in the endzone, that may have been a fair call, but likewise, the offensive player was also interferring as HHS made the catch. When CCH received the 2nd half kick on the goal line, I was expecting a whistle? Oh well, they are only high school refs. CCH has HHS rattled tonight, yet the Birds get the W.

Well, its simple. It has everything to do with the loss of 2 yr starter and Jr. Josh Quillen at Outside LBer for the season after sustaining a season ending ankle injury, the Coaches were forced to move PreSeason Ky Defensive player of the yr Austin Abner from his CB position to LB and then move in a very inexperience group of young kids in to fill his spot and you have some exposure. Quillen doesnt get hurt and nobody throws on Highlands the way some are thinking they are. BTW, the yound DB's that have stepped in for the Birds are doing an excellent job with Carter New coming up with a hugh pick last nite with CC driving. Abner has a pick last nite from his LB spot and Loflands late pick in the end of the game seals the win. Seidl was laying the wood and ppl say the Birds are soft in the secondary. Yeah, there were some holes, but for obvious reasons I wont go into why? For those bashing the HHS Defense, a quick reminder. I believe HHS Defense was on the field last nite for 34 mins and gave up 1 Td. CovCath has a great, not average but great kicker who gets 3 fgs and the special teams td. Not bad for a bunch of Defensive backs that were exposed. Offense takes care of the football and Highlands wins this one by a bunch. Go Birds 20n10

 

Mr Talkers had a very busy day on Friday:

COVINGTON CATHOLIC 4, HOLY CROSS 1 – Colonels junior center midfielder Evan Talkers scored two goals in the 20th District final at Eva G. Farris Field on Friday.

 

 

Junior striker Sean Cooney added a goal and an assist for the Colonels, who had lost their last two regular season games.

 

Talkers was named the most valuable player of the tournament, and senior defenders Peter Craig and Nick Weber were also named to the all-tournament team.

HALFTIME: 4-1. GOALS: CC—Talkers 2, Mullen, Cooney. HC—Guidugli. RECORDS: CovCath 10-4-3, Holy Cross 8-10-2.

 

 

So Talkers goes from the pitch of the soccer field to the Turf of the HHS football field and doesn't miss a beat!
