Possibly, or it makes them focus back on what got them to that point in the first place. If they do, IMO it won't matter what anyone else is thinking.

I understand what you're saying here, but who's to say that a nail-biter against Highlands may not encourage somebody out there to decide to step it up and bring their A-game when they may not have done so otherwise?

 

Take Cov Cath, for example. It's been bleedingly apparent in more than one game this year that they just didn't show up ready to play to their full potential...but you give them a real reason to want to win, which in this case was a huge rivalry game against Highlands, and they show up bringing their best performance of the year. Now then, suppose you have a team like Johnson Central, who's beaten Cov Cath handily the last two years straight, and they're looking at Cov Cath taking a game down to the final play with Highlands. You don't think that's going to give their players just a little more added incentive to leave it all on the field if they get a shot at the Bluebirds?

 

What I'm really, really hoping for is Johnson Central to overlook Cov Cath or Dixie thinking about Highlands!:thumb:

I am just glad everyone has stopped talking about anticipated 77 point margin of victories and the running clock. Viva le Birds. Viva le Colonels. Viva la rivalry. :ylsuper:

Alex Connelly was a complete mismatch for the the entire Bluebirds secondary. CCH needs to find a way to get him the ball more.

 

The defense played extremely inspired and seem to live in the Bluebird backfield in the 4th quarter.

 

Maybe this was already mentioned, but why'd they not go to Connelly on the final drive?? I didn't get to go to the game, but it sounded like Highlands couldn't cover him to save their lives, and I don't remember even hearing that a ball was thrown his way on the final drive. Maybe they were doubling him (or even tripling him), but I'm sure they were doing that most of the game and he was still producing.

 

Anyone know why they didn't go to him on the final drive?

What a difference between the programs:The Colonels best game of the year is a loss; Highlands best game of the year is a 50 point win in the state championship game.

 

Then again, maybe there are some similarities: seems like the Colonel fans were pleased and satisfied with their loss and eager to keep talking about it; the Highlands fans were pleased and satisfied with their win and eager to keep talking about it.
