John Hardin adding arch rival North Hardin to the district makes me smile. Look for John to be Bowling Greens thorn in the side this year and the next two. Our team is young and will only be better in 2011 and 2012. There are going to be some epic battles between these two teams.

Well, we have 3 mandatory games, Manual, Male, St. Xavier. Add Ballard, you think there are 6 schools in the state that will schedule us? I doubt it. Regardless, out of state competition has been an ingredient to our success this past decade, I'm all for expanding it. And getting our "word" out.

If the sophomore class continues to live up to expectations, I would wonder in two years if Trinity would be asked to play against one of the major players nationally in one of those made for TV ESPN games?

I said this in another thread, and I actually think Trinity benefits from this new alignment. Our district has been weak, relatively speaking, forever. This toughens up our schedule big time, in state. If we continue to schedule the Cincy/Nashiville/Wherever out of state powers, this should actually pay off big time, with regard to where it can take us. Of course, that is all dependent on believing (as I do) that to be the best, you have to play the best. Of the new alignment that affects Trinity, I think Manual suffers the most, but not too much more than in the past given they were already in a district with H and X. While open enrollment, their academic standards will still challenge them to put the most athletically talented in Jefferson County on the field. Don't get me wrong. I'm 100% behind their academic standards. But, it does make it difficult to enroll many of the most athletically talented. Male should do fine, IMO. And since they already are in the same district with 2 of the 3, adding Trinity should hopefully elevate their play (again, believing that you have to play the best to be the best). For X, I feel it's pretty much business as usual in the district, except the Trinity game actually means something (sort of). The district as a whole suffers, though, because all will make the playoffs, which means the regular season games pretty much mean nothing in the overall scheme of things.

It wont be as easy as BG thinks it will be to make it to the title game. John Hardin is fielding a really strong team next year and the year after also so watch out. Im not saying there not the front runner for state though. Like someone said earlier it'll be exciting to see the 2 teams collide.

Count me in with those that believe Trinity and Ballard lose something in this. If you ask Trinity alumni that grew up in the far East End like I did, many of them will say that beating Ballard was almost as satisfying as a win over St. X. Growing up, the guys in my neighborhood were all headed to one of three schools: Trinity, St. X or Ballard. Growing up with people that ended up at Ballard is a lot of what makes that rivalry so fun for us. I also love the basic structure of that rivalry: Trinity wins football, Ballard wins Basketball and the baseball game was going to be an absolute war, with a different winner in seemingly every meeting. Taking football out of the equation is really going to diminish something in that rivalry as far as I'm concerned, especially since Ballard is on the rise. I'm definitely going to be sad to see that one go.

You missed my point. Schedule 2 out of state teams and replace 1 of them with Ballard. I really like playing them.

So Walton and Brossart having their first good year, means they were going to be by passing the river schools? Wow, its funny how a little success means teams are always going to be good. Both are building good programs, but both have a lot of building to do. Those river schools you talked about go through cycles. Bellevue just lost a loaded team from last year, so they are down this year. Ludlow only has 3 seniors on the team, and only one who I believe that plays much. Brossart and Walton were not likely to by pass these schools at all, they were just getting to a point to where they can now compete and win some of them.

I agree with every word that you have said. Year in and year out Brossart, Bellevue, Ludlow, and Dayton would have made for a great competitive district behind Beechwood IF the Tigers remain prominent and I see no reason that they won't. Walton has the potential to "outgrow" 1A and could have become superior to the rest of us in the short run, but Brossart would have been very happy to remain in 1A and competed with the forementioned "river city schools" plus Beechwood.

 

Perhaps down the road Brossart might too have raised our level of play to where we could be ready to compete night in and night out with the teams that we have now been placed with, but in the short term this is going to be a tough challenge for a program that has just now become competitive with their present distirct opponents. I hope that Brossart will be able to keep our former "river city" opponents on our schedue as independents for the next few years.
