I'm shaking my head at 3A Districts 1-4. How in the world can the KHSAA logically put Bell County and Paducah Tilghman in the same semi-state? Is that not the most ludacris decision out there? First of all, there is nothing 'west' about Bell County and Corbin. Craziness.

 

You are right. I did not notice that. Could you imagine Bell having to travel to Paducah Tighlman or vice versa. That is just insane if you ask me. Someone needs to go show them a map!

Bell County. Not only do they avoid Highlands now, but they drop to arguably the weakest of the six classes.

Knox Central loses rival Bell from their district. Gains Highlands in their class. six of one.......

It doesn't matter what they did in the past its what their doing now and thats sweeping district again...Some fresh competition cant hurt them... since the teams in SK's current system never do anything in the playoffs, then playing them in the regular season does nothing to prepare SK for the playoffs

 

 

The problem is that Lexington teams tend to be putrid.

Based on geography, with so many 3A schools in eastern KY, how would you divide them better without putting Bell and Corbin in the west?

 

Pick somebody, anybody! Garrard County, Bourbon County, Estill County, Jackson County, etc. All four of those are much closer to the other teams in district four and not to mention the rest of the teams in that region (Ill give you bourbon county not being closer to wayne and mccreary). Think about this, though, with this set up the khsaa has potentially set up a state semi final game between Paducah Tilghman and Bell County.

Which, if anybody is doing the calculating (apparently not with the KHSAA powers to be). That is a 680 mile round trip for the visiting team between Paducah and Bell County. A 10+ hour round trip. That's just stupid, I'm sorry. Flat out stupid.

I would hate to be going on that trip. It will keep alot of people from attending because of working. I would have a hard time going myself.

If I were Bell Co, that would be the move I would push for if I was going to apply for a change.

 

However, I think it does increase the travel for all those teams in D7, increases the district travel for Bell, and probably increases the travel for Corbin and McCreary.

 

In short, it might pacify Bell Co, but it doesn't serve the other teams, it creates more travel for them.

I dont know, maybe it's just be, but those (Districts 4-8) just seem much more logical to me than the one proposed. Then again, maybe it's the whole part that Corbin and Bell County are mainstays in what we all think of when we think "Mountain Football", actually, the heart (geographically and traditionally) of mountain football. And, the idea that they could potentially be playing a 1st round playoff game v.s a Louisville school and/or one within 45 mins of Louisville seems insane. Especially when they have the likes of many, many, many eastern kentucky schools within in a much closer drive.

That draft would cut our travel time in 1/2 Doyle. Instead of driving an ave of 1:45 it would be more along the lines of 30-45.

Yes. However, I just know that they would prefer to have Ft. Campbell and Corbin still in it. The deeper the talent in your class, the more valuable the championship, in my opinion.

You make a very good point though, the classes are too watered down in my opinion. My family in Ohio make fun of Ky having the same number of classes as they do, with less than a third the number of teams.
