Is football important to the students at Lloyd anymore? Serious question.

Talent? Enrollment? Coaching? Support? Something else?

Probably all the above Ru.

I would also say all of the above and then some! I have been away from the program for sometime now. I still stay in touch with several people that or around the program. With Erlanger being land locked in the school district they still don't get the players out that should play. Be it the administration or coaching. Seveal very good people are still involved and can make a difference. I hate to see what is happening to the program however when you run people off that is what happens. Very little community support and people go elsewhere on friday nights. Lloyd difinitely needs to redo their schedule and play to the competition level they can play at not your 6A schools. The only help now is if the kids that are playing on the 7th/8th grade program keep playing, great attitude's and good coaching have this team doing the right things. The freshmen team had 26 players however if they can not keep eligible that does not help out. I only wish them the best because the kids that are playing have their heart's in the right place. JD

Hammer meet nail...

When things get to where they seem to be currently at Lloyd, there is plenty of blame to go around. And as everyone else has said, all the factors listed by the Guru are in there. But from what I have heard talking to quite a few people over the past few years, the brunt of the blame goes to the administration.

Changes can always be made to better a program, the thing that bothers me the most is that I dont want these kids to think lts okay to loose...That has never been part of the Lloyd program! Starting with scheduling teams that they can compete with is a great start! Winning is contagious but so is loosing...The more wins in a season will keep kids at the program and also bring kids out that normally where not going to play. Good Luck JUGGS and always play hard!

And the fall isn't just in football. Lloyd used to be a state powerhouse in track/field and cross-country, but not recently.

My son was in the Lloyd program played at Erlanger Lions . Moved him out of it, Lloyd was dropping alot of there classes . I think they need to change there whole school in general . I was not happy with the teachers or office at middle school. Thats the main reason I took him out . Most all the kids that he played sports with were good athletes. Not sure why they have fallen so far but I hope they get it back together for the kids .

Didnt the Erlanger Lions Sr division team make it to the super bowl a couple years ago?

Coaching.

I'm not trying to sound harsh, but when was the last time Lloyd a "serious" contender?

Well, depends on what you mean by "serious" contender. They were consistent winners the first half of this decade and I believe had a winning season just a couple of years ago. I think just last year they played a one point game with Cooper and this year they got thrashed. Right now, they are down quite a bit from where they were.

2003 they went (9-5) losing to eventual state champion Belfry in the semis, 21-13.

Previous two seasons prior to coach Lucas' arrival under Rudy Tassini, 3-7 and 1-9.

2000: 6-5 , lost in 1st round to LexCath

2001: 8-4, lost in 2nd round to Mason County

2002: 9-3, lost in 2nd round to Mason County

2003: 9-5, lost in state semis to Belfry

2004: 6-5, lost in 1st round to Fleming County

2005: 4-7, lost in 1st round to East Carter

2006: 4-7, lost in 1st round to Mercer County

2007: 3-8, lost in 1st round to Holy Cross (Cov)

2008: 6-6, lost in 2nd round to NCC

2009: 4-7, lost in 1st round to CAL

2010: 1-3, games remaining, @Scott,@Newport, Holy Cross, @NCC, Bellvue

60-60

I think scheduling needs to be adjusted. In this day and time, they have no chance against Holmes, Conner and Cooper. I think coach Lucas is a good coach, but you can't tell me the talent level hasn't dropped off a bit in Erlanger. In 2003, they beat us 35-21, in 2004, they won 13-7, in 2005 we beat them 40-0, in 2006 we beat them 51-3. that's a 62 point difference in 3 seasons. It's all about the Jimmy's and Joe's.

Erlanger is one of those cities that changes dynamics every 10-15 years. New young families turn into empty nesters. Then it starts over again. It is in the middle of the swings that Lloyd seems to prosper or hit the bottom. This may be a time where the city has older residents. The street I grew up on that flourished with kids is now filled with retirees. Not a kid on the street.
