Why has Lloyd fallen so far?

Featured Replies

It was just three years ago when they were in a dogfight with Holy Cross. I think that they have a couple of good players this year, but I would not blame the problem on scheduling, they used to be able to compete with those teams. I believe it is something else, but I don't know what.

How is the Freshman team doing? What kind of numbers do they have?

I know that they started a middle school program this year, not sure what that has done to the Lions, but technically it should get more kids playing football and hopefully improving their numbers.

its coaching and talent. The lack of serious football minded coaches that know what they are doing, how to coach and prepare a team are what is hurting the program. When I say talent, I mean that you do not have your best athletes playing football anymore, I believe the best football players at lloyd are currently on the team but there are proballyy 10 other kids in that school that could be on that field every Friday night but are not playing. When you continually get beat by 40 and 50 points you run kids away from the program PERIOD. The administration is also to blame. Lloyd is the only school that allows this type of losing and losing mentality to exist, please tell me another school that would stand by year after year and let this go on. Roy Lucas will at Lloyd until he decides he doesn't want to coach, that could mean this year, 5 years from now or 10 years from now. In a meeting 2 years ago the Principal asked a group of parents if the games were still on friday night, ENOUGH SAID. This is your Lloyd Juggernauts, get used to it!

I still say it is a shame as Lloyd used to be a whale of a program......

:confused:I think the principal knows the games are on Friday night. This was more a rhetorical question due to lack of fan support (at least the way I took it) not ignorance on the princpal's part as to when the games are....

Check out post #14. Those five consecutive years of winning seasons from 2000-2004 were all coached by Lucas, right? So he knows how to coach, how to win and what it takes to get there.

Coach Lucas is a good x's and o's coach. There are far to many things going on at Lloyd just to blame the coach as the problem is wrong. Granited he could make some changes and from what I hear he is this week. Give the man a chance like VOR said look at his recored past 8 years. Not just last two. Alot of changes need to be done period. JD

No thats not how it was asked, he said he had not been to any games.

I think you just helped prove my point, its going on 6 years of losing with no shake up in the coaching or the staff, excluding the Yeagle fiasco! Tell me what school in NKY would put up with that mediocrity besides Scott and people have been on here talking about whether or not Scott should keep football. Are we the next school that should drop football?

That's a fair viewpoint. I am just saying the coach knows how to win because he has done it and he has done it at Lloyd. That makes me think other factors are more to blame than the coach.

Yes I would agree that he is good at x's and o's to a point, he has done a terrible job of surrounding himself with quality coaches! I will also give him the benefit of the doubt because of injuries the past few years, 2 years ago he lost 2 wide recievers and his QB to season ending injuries, that QB by the way plays for EKU and threw a TD pass against Louisville 2 weeks ago, almost pulling off an upset, Brenden Gregory.

I agree with you, I do not want to lay all the blame at the coaches feet but he is the Head Coach but at the end of the day if he is going to take credit for the winning seasons in the past he also has to take the credit for the losing, you cant have it both ways. I'll say it again, he is a good guy and he doesn't have all the best athletes in the school playing and that is squarely on those kids for not playing, NOT COACH LUCAS, there are 25 kids out there everyday so he must doing something right for them.

Does the 25 include the Frosh team as well?

There is a NKYFL Lions team that had around 15 kids on it. Do they have a Middle School team as well? If so, things could be brighter.

Yes Tichenor has a middle school team that took most of the Lions players this year, maybe 3 or 4 of them will actually go to Lloyd, the rest live outside of Erlanger.
