Why has Lloyd fallen so far?

Featured Replies

Yes Tichenor has a middle school team that took most of the Lions players this year, maybe 3 or 4 of them will actually go to Lloyd, the rest live outside of Erlanger.

How about the freshman team, how many kids are on that squad?

Lloyd is the only school that allows this type of losing and losing mentality to exist, please tell me another school that would stand by year after year and let this go on.

SCOTT!!!!

SCOTT!!!!

Look at post #24, I mentioned them, unfortunately.

I still believe that Lloyd will be good again. It is a 2a school so they could be just having down years. Or at leats that what I hope. Anyways it is hard to compare them to Scott who has never really had a winning program.

OK the 7th8th grade program has about 26 kids, freshmen 25 kids, jv and varsity about 22 kids, last week the freshmen did dress and plya JV on saturday since so many were ineligible for the Freshmen game last week. The Lions right now have about 17 kids and maybe half will attend Tichenor next year. The key to this year is the 7th/8th grade program that is headed in the right direction with 2 of the 3 coaches having coached for the Lions program. They Lloyd needs alot of community involvement and without it will suffer there are far too many players that are not paticipating in sports at Lloyd and I have know idea why. I only wish them the best. JD

Ok does Lloyd still have the no pass no play rule?????????? While that is admirable that is always a killer for small schools who do not have the numbers to take such hits.............. (As an fyi the KHSAA rule allows a student to be eligible if they are passing 4 out of 6 classess.......................) Now I am not saying it is wrong to have a no pass no play rule BUT then you must live with that choice.....that being the chance of more ineligible players.

Also Lloyd used to drug test athletes. Again a good idea?????absolutely.......but the flip side is some kids will not play due to this (very sad but true.........)

Lloyd does have a stricker policy as far as eligibility, one F and you can not play but please be careful in saying that kids at Lloyd dont play because of drug tests. I happen to like their policies when it comes to these two matters! Kids are not leaving or not playing because of drug tests.

Well I know first hand that it is true and it is not a knock on Lloyd. Quite frankly Lloyd is to be commended for its tough policies on drugs and tough policies on grades. However when looking at reasons for lack of numbers both of these points MUST be taken into consideration. If other schools would go the same route they would have the same issues. Again this is not a knock on Lloyd but at the same time you have to recognize that it does play a role.

that is probably one of the stricter policies. One F and you can't play?

Go Ahead and jump, does the khsaa specify 4 of 6? some schools have 7 classes so how is that interpreted?

If Lloyd wants to get more players out for sports and really be true to their tough rules, maybe they should test all kids in the school for drugs. Do they test kids for all extra curricular activities? I am not saying I am for it or against it. I am just saying that a school wide program would remove drug testing as a reason not to play sports.

Yes it outlines percentages. In other words if it takes 20 credits to graduate you must be on track as a freshmen to have achieved 20% (which means 4 classes if on a 6 period day) and by the time you are a junior you must have completed 70% of the credits.................................

Lloyd's policy is much tougher. Keep in mind eligibility is week to week and at Lloyd this makes it tougher on coaches because if a kid is failing lets say 3 or 4 classes you can pretty much rule them out for awhile...........But on a no pass no play doneweekly the fluctuation of those eligibile and in eligible is going to change much more dramatically than on a program following KHSAA guidelines.

Erlanger is one of those cities that changes dynamics every 10-15 years. New young families turn into empty nesters. Then it starts over again. It is in the middle of the swings that Lloyd seems to prosper or hit the bottom. This may be a time where the city has older residents. The street I grew up on that flourished with kids is now filled with retirees. Not a kid on the street.

Hey, I think we may have grown up on the same street, I see the same thing. I also remember ("back in the day") when Silver Lake Park was packed full of kids of all ages playing basketball and football, very rarely is it used any more????????????? Interest in sports and athletics is not the same as it used to be.

My son was in the Lloyd program played at Erlanger Lions . Moved him out of it, Lloyd was dropping alot of there classes . I think they need to change there whole school in general . I was not happy with the teachers or office at middle school. Thats the main reason I took him out . Most all the kids that he played sports with were good athletes. Not sure why they have fallen so far but I hope they get it back together for the kids .

Some of the resons why they have fallen so far is because of kids being "pulled out" of the program for whatever reason (not liking teachers, athletics, location). Lloyd is in a difficult spot, as a small independent school inside Kenton County, they have a lot of other big schools to compete with. Many kids can decide to go to Scott, Simon, Dixie, St. Henry, etc, and I truly feel that many kids attend these bigger schools. Even still, every year Lloyd does a great job academically, each year they have very good test scores, so you know they are doing things right in the classroom, motivating thier students to do well. I know that Mr. Riehman (spelling?) would love to keep all programs that have been dropped plus add some, however, the money is just not there to do so.

As a former Juggernaut myself, I know that the administration is doing everything they can to make that school the best it can be. I think they good coaches in place that teach kids the right way, how to be good STUDENT ATHLETES and good people (Coach Moore, Coach Key, Coach Lucas, etc). I love my Juggernauts and I also hope that things get turned around and continue to complete athletically as they did several years ago.
