Name another 37 year old with the speed, size, and strength of Terrell Owens...

 

It would be a different story if T.O. had been falling off significantly, but being on a bad Buffalo team and still gaining over 800 yards is solid to say the least. T.O. still has it, and if anybody can sympathize with a down year due to Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing to you, its Ochocinco.

I understand as Bengal fans why some of you are excited. So I will bow out of this discussion. I have learned several things today:

 

1. Terrell Owens has found the fountain of youth and therefore does not age like the rest of mankind.

2. Chad Johnson is a Hall of Famer yet Drew Brees isn't.

3. The years Terrell Owens played with Jerry Rice didn't count because Owens wasn't a star yet.

4. The limitations on Terrell Owens being a good teammate is one year.

5. The rest of the Bengals receivers suck.

I'm still waiting to hear why TO being 37 matters, if he can still produce 50+, 800, & 6....I'd really love to hear some kind of explaination on that one Koun, but I've realized you'll never actually give an answer.

 

Chad's #s will make him a HoFer amost assuredly, as will Brees by the time their both done, neither's are there yet though, and I doubt either is a 1st balloter.

 

He said that Chad isn't the best WR Owens has played with, and I said when Owens played with Rice, it wasn't the same T.O....He hadn't yet become a #1.

 

It doesn't take a genius to see that Owens has never been a problem anywhere his first year, and last time I checked 1 year contracts only encompass 1 NFL season. :idunno:

 

Yes, outside of Chad, the rest of the Bengals receivers did suck, and its absolutely delusional to think that any of them could even come close to the production of TO.

Sounds like this deal will end up costing less than 3 million for the Bengals. He has six incentives, each worth 333K. 60 catches, 900yds, 10 TDs and 100 catches, 1300 yds, 14 TDs. I think he'll hit two of those.

I just hope no one expects TO to be the savior. He is closer to being an average player than he is to being a star at this point in his career. Sure he is an upgrade, but any capable WR in the league would be compared to the garbage the Bengals trotted out there last year beside Chad. I mean for goodness sake, you guys were happy they signed Matt Jones!!!! That's how pathetic the Bengals WRs were.

 

He makes the Bengals better but not much IMO. They would be just as good without him IMO if they use Gresham and guys like Bryant (when healthy) and Shipley.

I also forgot the mention that I think the Bengals win their division again. And TO didn't factor into that at all. I think Flacco is now the most overrated QB in the league and I expect their (Baltimore) defense to not be as good this year as age is catching up with them. The Browns have no shot in the division I wouldn't imagine. And the Steelers are probably a year away IMO, I think they still need to add some pieces.

 

So I'm not trashing the Bengals, even though as I've said many times I'm not a fan.

Herman made a good point on ESPN. As talented as this team is going to be, they're obviously going to move the ball and get first downs. What does that equal? More opportunities to spread the ball around and keep everyone happy.

 

As long as this team is winning, I doubt very seriously you'll see anyone, especially TO, complaining. TO is at the point in his career and life where he simply wants a ring and wants to win.

 

And some of you are leaving out the fact that this is the best QB that T.O has ever had throwing to him. Some of you will argue Steve Young may be better or was, but I'll take #9 all day.

 

On Bengals.com, they've said it will likely be T.O and Chad out wide with Shipley/Caldwell and Bryant splitting time in the slot.

 

Don't forget they also have a 1,000 yard rusher in the backfield.

Not to mention, a defense that could be an absolute monster for opposing offenses. If the Bengals can put up 24 or 27 a game, they could win a bunch of games.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. If this were Owens from 2-3 years ago, then I would be getting my popcorn ready. The numbers show there is a sharp decline in production for most players, especially WRs once you hit your mid-30s. I believe I heard John Clayton say there have only been 4, 1000 yard WRs in NFL history at age 36+. That does not mean T.O. cannot accomplish that feat as he is a physical specimen. Nor does it mean the Bengals are trying to use him in that capacity. I think it is an upgrade, but not near as much as being portrayed.

The TO from 4 or 5 years ago would put the Bengals in the preseason Super Bowl conversation IMO. That defense keeps getting better and better.

They have an elite defense, 2 headed monster in the backfield. Heap will be healthy, Flacco is better than any of us want to admit. And they added Boldin. I'd say adding Boldin more than trumps adding TO. And as bad as I hate to say it, I think they have an outstanding head coach. Schedules not withstanding.

His hands have continued to get worse. Hasn't he led the league in drops the last few years? Most of the passes he drops are not the QBs fault, they usually happen when he is wide open. I've seen him drop some sure TDs over the last few years.
