What's Your Favorite Sandwich?

Featured Replies

In the summer I crave a simple Bologna, American cheese, fresh tomato sliced very thin and a little mustard on fresh white bread.

I'm up for that, but I have two loquacious sons, one is 7 and the other is 12.

Holy smoke. If your 7 yr old raps like your now 12 yr old you've got a lot of talking going on.

I never pass up a good Gyro where I can find one. Also, any sandwich from a place called Primanti's in Pittsburgh. They put fries on the sandwich. I also love shrimp Po' Boys, and Monte Cristos. When just popping into a deli, I like roast beef, swiss, and heavy on the mustard on dark pumpernickel rye. Thread is making me hungry.

Absolutely!

...a nice MLT: a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean...

I'm surprisd to see the popularity of the Cuban sandwich on here.

I thought that I was the only one to have discovered it.

Pressed, toasted buttered Cuban flatbread is a must, along with pork.

Local Cuban Sandwiches don't measure up!

I first discovered them at Gulfstream Park back in the 80's/90's.

I visit a real cuban restaurant in St. Thomas every time the curise ship stops there.

You mean this gate key?

^ Thanks a lot. Now I've got that "Do you have any Grey Poupon" commercial running through my head. Just when the guy from Staples had left the vicinity.

 Grey Poupon is for cretins. :D

I'll have to check the fridge when I get home. But the brand I buy has whole mustard seeds in it. It's EXCELLENT. It's drier than most mustards but the flavor cannot be beat. I did pay quite a bit for that jar, though.

I'm so provincial. I guess Grey Poupon is for the dumb masses.

You know I'm just Jim Shue-ing you, don't you? :D

I've eaten a raft load of them over the last thirty years. Because if this thread, I've had two in the last week. Andy's was overrun today and La Teresita is just too far away, so I got my fix at Cuban Breezes. Still a great sandwich cubano.

For any NKY folks on here, Buona Vita Pizzaria on 6th Street in Dayton has pretty fantastic sandwiches. It's owned by a couple of 20-something brothers who are making good use on their mother's Italian family recipes. I just had their sausage & peppers hoagie (with extra pickles and onions) last night and it was flat out fantastic. Their lasagna is also hands-down the best I've ever had in my life. Nothing like cheap, home cooked, good eats. If any folks think to head down that way, it's probably worth noting that they're closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Another interesting little detail about the restaurant, it's located in Dayton, and it's owned by a Holy Cross grad and a Cov Cath grad, so don't be surprised if you see quite a cross-section of NKY prep fans down there when you go. I saw a Bellevue HS baseball t-shirt, a Highlands football cap, a Beechwood t-shirt, and a Dayton HS football t-shirt all sitting at different tables there last night. Unfortunately, I had left all of my Colonel gear at home. You could feel the tension in the air though!

Goetta Hoagie (extra pickles) from Pasquale's in Bellevue.

I have not had one in a while. Need to fix that very soon.

I just had one on Sunday...it was good, but I was kind of under-whelmed to be honest. I'd rather have a Goetta Egg and Cheese sandwich from the Fort Wright Family Restaurant.

Some of my favorites:

Cheddar Bacon Burger from Sawyers in Lex

Chick-fil-a Original Chicken Sandwich

Blackened Grouper Sandwich from any restaurant where I can see the ocean

Leftover turkey from Thanksgiving on home made bread w/ mayo

Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich from Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City, MO

Anything from Wallace Station in Midway. :thumb:
