I understand your position LN, but this is basically what it is....Highlands will schedule one very tough team, outside their district one time per year in the regular season, hope to win that game on their way to the state championship. To compare Highlands schedule to an Elder or Cincinnati St. X year in and year out would not even be close. Again-I am not trying to pull your chain-I believe Highlands would finish in the lower half if they were in the GCL most years. I know they are smaller in size and know that matters. But again, Highlands would have a hard time holding up for four straight weeks against, St. X, Moeller, Lasalle and Elder, and then playing a good non conference schedule too.

 

It doesn't matter which AD you know as far as Louisville St.X, and I say this with regards to them schedulng Highlands too. If you wanted to play each other you could. In your post you show how schedules are changed all the time, and contracts get broken. Also the schedulers could have a little forsight and plan ahead as I imagine Highlands and Louisville St. X will both be good in say 2016.

This is a subject no one will ever agree on and we are just going in circles. Lets go back to discussing this years upcoming team and the successes/hurdles this team may encounter. :thumb:

I am going to say it again, and I know other posters have agreed. Why is this such a tough schedule?? As to scheduling games-Ryle and Highlands found a way to play each other twice.

What about those vaunted Pioneers that I hear so much about from one poster. Or a Lexington 6A team. What do Beechwood and Boone County and Withrow bring to the table. Is someone on here going to tell me that any of those teams will be within four touchdowns of Highlands??

 

I don't see Highlands 2010 being as good as 2009. If I recall correctly, Beechwood was within 2 TD's of Highlands entering the 4th quarter last year, although they did end up losing by 4 TD's. I do think Beechwood will give Highlands a better game this year and will be within 4 TD's of Highlands. Withrow only got beat by 3 TD's last year and with HHS2010 being not as strong (IMO) as 2009, that could be a tough game.

 

I think this is the point of contention. If Highlands wants to truly be national champions, fans like History think Highlands should play more national level opponents. Compare Highlands' schedule to other 5A schools in KY, and it is no doubt one of the toughest. But is it a schedule befitting one of the top 5 teams in the nation? IMO ... no. I agree with History that HHS would be looking at a couple of losses a year or more if they played a GCL schedule. And Bluebird fans, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can not use the school size as a reason for not scheduling more big teams if you also want to claim being a top 5 national team and contend for a national title. The size argument does not play in the national champion argument. And that is the bone of contention between History and others vs. Bluebird nation. Their point is if you are a national contender, you need to step it up even further on the schedule.

I disagree. If I were an Ohio GCL school or Anderson or Colerain, I would love to play Highlands. They are almost the perfect opponent in the Harbin system because you know Highlands is going to rack up 10+ wins.

 

Bottom line, many other top tier and/or national contender teams are able to find at least a couple of games a year against similar level opponents.

 

But before anyone gets their feathers too ruffled, please note that I have no complaints about Highlands' schedule. I am just trying to point out where fans like History are coming from.

I agree with the last paragraph. It is truly awesome that Highlands has garnered national attention, and it has been stated as a goal each season for the program. I would think though the primary goals are to win each game on the schedule, win a state title, and then see how that shakes out nationally. These goals have been achieved. Disparaging a certain seasons schedule to downplay the success of this program is result of one of two things. Not many programs in the nation much less the Commonwealth have put together the string of seasons that Highlands has the past 3 years. 44-1, and 3 straight titles? Pretty much says it all. 20n10!

I caught the first 45 minutes or so. Birds looked very good. Towles looked very good. I only saw him throw two balls that weren't catchable. We looked extremely athletic, fast and quick. 7s aren't football but they do show the accuracy and arm strength of your qb and the speed and route running abilities of your receivers. We showed great in those categories.

Hard to say great unless you schedule a top team in 7 on 7s. I heard that Marvin wanted to bring the Bengals backers and dbs across the crick to scrimmage, but Dale couldn't make it work. Guess the Bluebirds are ducking yet another challenge.

Pat Towels looked exceptional today. Playin in a constant drizzle and throwing 5 pound wet balls he sure didnt miss many marks. His decision level is very high and his confidence in his ability to make a play is off the charts. I think Dales recent hiring of Lorenzen has a whole lot to do with the way Pat has developed into a QB. Defense was very good today as well as HHS nastys were warned by BW coaches a few times not to drop shoulders. Understand nobody wants anyone to get hurt in these things but I did like the natural instincts of the HHS LBs today. BW has a nice looking group of kids that are still learning and will be a handful to beat when they begin the season especially in Single A. GO Birds 20n10

Well, lets just put it this way. Alot of folks including myself are saying that HHS is going to be nasty on D and the O will eventually come around. But from the little that I saw today, the O is going to be just fine and they could be the nastys. Give PT 3 seconds in the pocket and he is going to light it up. Could we be seeing another run of the Jared and Gino era, possibly throwing it 40 to 50 times a game and piling up the 3 to 4k yd passing seasons? We will just have to see. I like it when you set the run up with the pass, of course thats coming from a pass first run second kind of guy. Highlands will be tough to defend this yr, Period. 20n10

What was the final score of the HHS-BW 7-on-7? Was it at HHS from 9-12 today?

 

What is the rest of the week's 7-on-7 schedule for HHS? I've heard some conflicting stuff.

Anderson tomorrow 9 to noon and Mason Co Thursday 9 to noon.
