The Raiders are absolutely loaded this year and IF HHS is to lose to anyone on their schedule, I think it's Ryle that poses the greatest threat.

 

Good point, the Birds will have to bring their A game defense in those games. Ryle having a very good QB and RB will make them tough to stop. I do think the Birds will we ready though and come out victorious. Defensive line will be the key for that group IMO. All other positions seem to be very very solid.

I am not sure what Ryle has coming back, but I saw them lose to St. X. 66 - 17 in the second round of the playoffs. Hopefully they wil put up a better effort against Highlands.

You are absolutely correct. Didn't mean to dis the Raiders. I was merely pointing out that these people that think it's always easy for HHS to win just don't have a clue.

The problem is the Birds literally crushed all of their opponents and the margins of victory speak otherwise. Ryle will be the only team to get within 2 touchdowns of the Birds during the regular season and first 3 playoff games IMO.

With regard to 5A, keep in mind that Johnson Central is returning a great deal of talent and experience, and they have given HHS relatively good games the past two years. Plus, if they meet up in the playoffs this year, I believe the game will be at JC.

 

Also, it sounds like CovCath may be returning to form this season, and there have been years where one team (either HHS or CCH) was considered the favorite but lost to the other team in the playoffs (take a look at the 1992 Class 3A thread on BGP for an example).

 

When a program has several consecutive years of success, you always have to wonder whether complacency will set in. Coach Mueller and the staff, along with the HHS players' families and players themselves have done a great job of continuing the intensity over the past few seasons (which is one of the reasons why I believe Coach Mueller has begun talking about how Highlands measures up on a national level, in order to keep moving the benchmark higher). Hopefully this year's HHS squad will continue with this level of intensity.

 

Interesting scenario. For this to happen, both teams must be first in their district, and then the game would be at Johnson Central. If either are a two seed, the game would be in the second round, vs the third, at the higher seed's field. The Johnson Central at Ashland Paul Blazer (October 8th) has large implications for this scenario, as Ashland may be the only team in that district to challenge the Eagles. Of course, HHS will have to take care of business in their own district as well.

Hey, I can relate. It would be neat to have a summary at the top of each page about what was on the page before.

So who looks to be the #1 running back this year for the Birds? I am hoping the nod goes to Compton. He's looked like a stud in practice recently.

Yeah I am interested to know what type of offense will be run this year. Pass to run ratio and what formations will be used.

 

Are the Highlands backs big and powerful or small and fast or somewhere in between?

I think Highlands will air it out like the Lorenzen Smith days. They should do something like UK and have a slogan, Operation: Aerial Assault! :ylsuper: Its going to be fun to watch! And Highlands has a trio of great running backs that will compliment the passing game very well in Compton, True, and Streeter.

It's hard not to laugh at some of these Ky. state preseason polls when you see a team like Johnson Central, arguably the Birds' toughest game in their quest for a 4th straight title, ranked #32 in the state and #8 in their division. I watched this team play Highlands last year. They return alot of high quality players and gave the Brids their toughest challenge defensively. Highlands at #2 is either overrated or JC is extemely underrated. Whatever the case, it's shaping up to be a very competitive year of football with no gimmies for the Highlands Bluebirds.....
