Can someone please explain exactly how these 7-on-7's are structured? Is everything passing, or are there running plays? Is it 'touch' football or is there contact? Does the QB face any pressure/pass rush? How much celebrating do the referees tolerate after a score? (OK, this last question was less than serious )

It is all passing. It is two hand touch. The qb has a certain amount of time to get rid of the ball or the play is dead..

I am capable of holding multiple titles and doing multiple tasks; thank you very much. But in this case the Mayor of Mouthiness title belongs elsewhere.

Yes, next week they have one against Moeller and Holmes, both at Highlands.

 

What day and time?

I am looking at the schedule and really dont see a team that could beat the birds. Then I look at the other 5A teams and there is no competition. So is anyone going to realistically challenge Highlands this year?

With regard to 5A, keep in mind that Johnson Central is returning a great deal of talent and experience, and they have given HHS relatively good games the past two years. Plus, if they meet up in the playoffs this year, I believe the game will be at JC.

 

Also, it sounds like CovCath may be returning to form this season, and there have been years where one team (either HHS or CCH) was considered the favorite but lost to the other team in the playoffs (take a look at the 1992 Class 3A thread on BGP for an example).

 

When a program has several consecutive years of success, you always have to wonder whether complacency will set in. Coach Mueller and the staff, along with the HHS players' families and players themselves have done a great job of continuing the intensity over the past few seasons (which is one of the reasons why I believe Coach Mueller has begun talking about how Highlands measures up on a national level, in order to keep moving the benchmark higher). Hopefully this year's HHS squad will continue with this level of intensity.

I would count on it, although other than JC I can't name any. I imagine HHS will be at the top of the list of 5-6 teams who will compete for the title.

Highlands will definately be challenged this year IMO. They still play a decent schedule. Anytime you have CovCath, Beechwood, Dixie, Boone, and Withrow on your schedule, you will be challenged. As soon as HHS looks past anyone of these teams, it will bite them in the rear. Of course HHS seldom does overlook anyone, but it can happen. And don't forget the playoffs. There will be plenty challenge there. Sure you would like to cruise the season and playoffs to #20, but it will take as much effort as all the other teams that have won State at HHS.

 

This isn't an issue jb. This years Juniors and Seniors, including those that will be first time starters have been getting together outside of normal practice hours for the past three years, throwing and catching football. They enjoy working out together on off days of football, and individually have attended some top football camps. I think getting up at 8 am and going to a gym on your own on a football off day during the summer qualifies this years team as keeping up the intensity. Though they needed no reminder, they are are still being pushed by this year's graduating class. Their definition of success begins now since they will be the ones actually contributing.

You overlooked their two biggest games on the schedule...Ryle.

 

The Raiders are absolutely loaded this year and IF HHS is to lose to anyone on their schedule, I think it's Ryle that poses the greatest threat.
