Before the season starts, I thought it would be interesting to hear some predictions about which 2010 opponent will give Highlands its toughest challenge during the REGULAR SEASON. Since Highlands is playing Ryle twice (at HHS early in the season and at Ryle late in the season), be sure to specify which of the Highlands-Ryle games will be toughest for HHS, if you happen to choose Ryle.

A lot of people are probably thinking Ryle, but I am going to say Cincinnati Withrow. Highlands played them last year and the final score was 21-0 HHS. Withrow usually fields a very athletic team, and if they play up to their potential against HHS the Bluebirds could have a real fight on their hands.

Withrow is by far a better team than JC and will definitely be one of Highlands toughest foes. Other than that, Highlands has a lock on NKY. It's probably a good thing Withrow is playing Highlands at home because they'll need all the support they can get. Remember, speed kills....

Last year, I'd have said Withrow over Ryle. Don't think that will be the case this year. Withrow will again be athletic, but in talking to someone I know close to the Withrow program, Withrow lost a lot from last year. I won't go into specifics because I'm not sure I'm permitted to disclose what I was told, but I don't expect Withrow to be as good this year as it was last year. Plus as noted, the Withrow game is at Highlands. The first time a team plays at Highlands can be an unsettling experience. Plus, I expect Ryle to be better this year than last year with another year of experience under Hempel's and Elliot's pads.

If Waldo keeps working hard (and I think he will) he could provide some much needed depth to the O line and make a big contribution this year. It looks like they've moved him to O tackle and with those long arms of his, that would be a good position for him. If he doesn't see the field much this year with the starters, I see him making a huge contribution next year. Just a solid kid.

Looks like a lot of new faces on this year's Def/Off lines. I hope they can give Patrick some time back there to deal and open up some holes for Streeter/Compton and the rest of the backs.
