This should not happen and would be a black eye on a very good program. I really do not know of the situation, but as a head coach I can tell you my son would have to blow away the competition to play QB at any level. This is in the junior ranks, if it happens in high school, I see the program going in the wrong direction fast....that would be a shame.

 

While I certainly do not know this to be an absolute fact (the Boone situation), I will say that someone I work with who is close to the Boone program and whose word I trust, has told me this is the case. Hopefully this is not true. I agree - coaching your son is VERY tricky. I struggled with it for years - always worried that other people might think they are getting special treatment or (in my case) going to the other extreme and being overly critical of your son.

Boone County fans will vehemently disagree, but the Rebels are a basketball school now, with the decent success lately of the mens and ladies squads.

 

Ryle and Simon Kenton have both been to the State Finals out of the Rebels own district more recently than Boone County has on the gridiron. If you can't win a state championship with an NFL MVP(Shaun Alexander) on your team, and the Rebels have never been the state champs in football, then I think you might be wise to review your philosopy.:idunno:

I think a 3 year winning streak against NKY opponents is a great reason to rank a team #1. The fact that they are talented goes without saying, it's Highlands, they will always have very talented teams. Untill they lose they should be #1. With that said I don't think they are head and shoulders above the rest of NKY this year. I don't think they will win state:sssh:

 

Highlands is going to surprise quite a few people this year. They might not be the scoring machine of late, but will be very difficult to score on. JMO!!!

I agree they will be very good, but I just think CovCath is really going to be special this year. Nobody is talking about them but they have a ton of returning talent.

Coach Wirth is doing a nice job, but the QB whomever is chosen will be inexperienced at the varsity level. Ryle to start the season, and always tough Highlands will make it another around .500 year for CCH.

It's going to be hard for any public, zone restricted school to win a state championship when they have to compete against the likes of schools that are able to bring in outside talent. If Boone could have put about 3 or 4 Shaun Alexander type athletes on that team, a state championship quest would have possibly had a different outcome.

I think the Boone football program is suffering because the kids just won't push themselves to get better and for the past couple of years there has been no one stepping up to push them to work hard in the off season. Over the years the staff has been riding the talent of individuals like Bogle, Farris, Doucette, Quainoo, Eagler, the Brown brothers and some others that were just natural athletes who put in extra work to get better. This year they are hitting the weight room more often and harder than they have in the past and hopefully the strength program will help fill the void of superior talent and questionable style of play. They don't need to be superstars to be in the to 10, they just need to get stronger, smarter and play together.

Does no one have faith in Copper breaking into the top 10. I'll be the first to say they will. They had a few district games that were pretty close in the scores and I'm sure they will continue to get better.

I'll up you one and say 5 and 5. :thumb: Their JV and freshmen had some success and that may add to the table for them to be slightly better than what people who don't follow underclassman talent think. I'll have to find you at some of the games this year.

Dvontae Bradley, Ryan Klute, Matt Rudd, Mason Hutchinson, and Jon Sutthoff, to name a few.

I know you love Boone-33-and appreciate your comments. Forget about winning that elusive state crown. I think Boone has slipped over the past few years-despite the great athletes you mentioned above. I think Ryle's approach of playing an arduous schedule will pay off. As for SK, I am not sold on them yet. Simpson was a superb talent, and I like the quarterback, but after he is gone, then what? For some reason I just haven't bought in yet.:idunno:

The CovCath Scrimmage to open the year should be a good barometer for how Cooper's season will go. I think they will surprise many people this year.

 

I predict they will win their first district game this year. Don't know who they will beat, however, I don't think it will be Ryle or SK

Last year's freshmen will be very little help in a 6A schedule. You might get a couple kids to fill some positions but they are not going to get you wins. If you are counting on a number of freshmen to be your playmakers, you don't have the players yet to compete in 6A. I think Cooper is still one year away from cracking the N. Ky. top 10 but they have some good things going. They just need to keep working hard and the wins will come. The schedule will determine if they get to 5-5. If they fill in the non district games with smaller schools, they may get there this year.

Wrong! I don't love Boone...I love athletic competition regardless of the team! You could account the slipping to the fact that Boone was once primarily the main high school around. Now with the number of schools available the talent has been dispersed. Are you not aware of the fact that Boone played Anderson of Ohio, Highlands and Trinity last year, two of them back to back? Those are probably three of the better teams in the Tri- State area, so they 're not taking it easy on the schedule. The payoff from that was just three big butt whoopins! Ryles toughest opponents last year Highlands, SK and Trinity also put a thumping on them, so I don't really see the balancing logic in how that makes either team better. Teams will be as good as they prepare for ther talent level their facing.

 

I agree with you about SK, missing the talent of Simspon, Hansel and other Olinemen will take a toll on SK. Still should be an interesting year.
