Pre-Season Nky Top 10?

Featured Replies

Last year's freshmen will be very little help in a 6A schedule. You might get a couple kids to fill some positions but they are not going to get you wins. If you are counting on a number of freshmen to be your playmakers, you don't have the players yet to compete in 6A. I think Cooper is still one year away from cracking the N. Ky. top 10 but they have some good things going. They just need to keep working hard and the wins will come. The schedule will determine if they get to 5-5. If they fill in the non district games with smaller schools, they may get there this year.

Sophomores and especially juniors definitely have the ability to make a difference in a couple of positions, the class level itself doesn't make the athlete. I think Ryle's Oline was laced with juniors last year and look how far it took them, starting QB was a junior, key RB a sophomore. So throw grade level out the window and look at what shows up to play. I personally think they have chances against Boone, Campbell County and Conner next year. Don't forget, they have one of the best backs in NKY whether people agree or not. They definitely have some good things going and it may be sooner than later.

Wrong! I don't love Boone...I love athletic competition regardless of the team! You could account the slipping to the fact that Boone was once primarily the main high school around. Now with the number of schools available the talent has been dispersed. Are you not aware of the fact that Boone played Anderson of Ohio, Highlands and Trinity last year, two of them back to back? Those are probably three of the better teams in the Tri- State area, so they 're not taking it easy on the schedule. The payoff from that was just three big butt whoopins! Ryles toughest opponents last year Highlands, SK and Trinity also put a thumping on them, so I don't really see the balancing logic in how that makes either team better. Teams will be as good as they prepare for ther talent level their facing.

I agree with you about SK, missing the talent of Simspon, Hansel and other Olinemen will take a toll on SK. Still should be an interesting year.

I believe they played St. X in the first round...not Trinity.

And don't forget that they also played Scott Co...a mainstay in the 6A semi finals. :thumb:

Okay! I guess overall I just think Ryle seems to have their sites set on a state championship, and in my opinion Boone County doesn't. I see the Ryle program rising or attempting to, and I don't feel the same way about Boone.

I really just can't remember the last time Boone beat somebody that they shouldn't have-maybe way back to when they had Shaun Alexander and beat Elder at Boone.

you are right, I always get Trinity and St X. mixed up

They both have soo much talent, they seem to be the same to me. Either way we both too a thumping from them. That's how bad it was,I forgot who we were playing

Boone is looking at another down year next season. Hard to be an all-run team if you don't have the line. And hard to throw when you don't have the QB or system for it.

FYI, I've heard Boone has had a couple big lineman transfer into to the school this year from out of state. May be a break year in the right direction.

Great more running until their ouster from the playoffs in round 2.

Every program probably has their sites on the state championship. What matters is how they approach it. As I said earlier, this years Boone team is doing some things different than the past as far as the offseason.

Since the 04-05 season, up until last year Boone has pretty much been on the upside of Ryle, so the table could turn eventually.

Help me out with Ryle History. Who was the last team Ryle beat that they shouldn't have.

The difference between Boone and Ryle is that Boone is consistently good every year. Ryle will get a class here and there that will give them success for a 2 or 3 yr period and then it's back to mediocrity.

See if any of these resonate with you, and I know it is a matter of opinion:

11/24/07 beat Henderson County 59-28 in the state semifinal

10/31/08 beat Dixie 48-39

10/23/09 beat Boone County 48-7

11/06/09 beat PRP 52-22

The difference between Boone and Ryle is that Boone is consistently good every year. Ryle will get a class here and there that will give them success for a 2 or 3 yr period and then it's back to mediocrity.

I respectfully disagree. I think Boone has been on the downslide for a while now, and when they are good they are better than average, but nothing remarkable. I think Boone's glory is over, and Ryle and maybe even Conner's is on the rise. Like 33 states-maybe just a matter of kids moving to different places like Hebron and Union.

definitely a matter of opinion here.

Boone came into that game 3 and 6, so probably not an upset

Dixie came into that game 3 and 5, and Ryle was 4 and 4 so again probably not a big upset

PRP was 3 and 7, so I think even Boone could have beat them........not an upset

possibly more so the Henderson County win given they had only lost 2 games but with a fairly easy schedule prior to Ryle beating them. I don' really know that division, so I can't truly say.

Boone has played in the regional championship 5 times in the last 8 years winning 2 of those games with all of their regional losses coming to the team that played in the state finals. While Ryle and Conner combined have only played in 1 regional championship during that span, and Ryle made it to the finals without playing a team from Lexington or Louisville. I am by no stretch a Boone fan but to say they have been on a downslide for years is not supported by facts. Were they down last year? YES, but most schools have up and down years.

I am not a Boone fan. But I have followed NKY 6A very close for seversl years now. I think 2009 was the first down year in a while. In fact it may have been the first year Ryle beat Boone since 2005??? They meet in the playoffs also with Boone winning. But if are talking about the 2010 season Ryle should be the team to beat for the top spot. But I also think S.K. will be better than most think. Dose anyone know the date Ryle and S.K. will play this fall???????

Weren't they just 9-4 and in the region championship a year ago? I wouldn't exactly say they've been in a downslide for years. Boone has traditionally been a top 3-5 team year in and year out in nky and always at the top of nky 6A.

Outside of Highlands and Beechwood, Boone is probably the most consistent team in nky. With the direction that the program may be heading in with some of the "turmoil" that's going on out there now, I could possibly see them having a few "bad" years (by Boone's standards) until a change is made out there.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Coach Wirth is doing a nice job, but the QB whomever is chosen will be inexperienced at the varsity level. Ryle to start the season, and always tough Highlands will make it another around .500 year for CCH.

Brady Reese will be the QB. He is much faster than Erp but is not as good passing. The game versus Ryle will be a great game. There is no way this team will only finish .500. The past three years CCH has had very good freshman teams. The backfield will be loaded with Gray, Slabaugh, Leo, and Beatrice, they have the best WR in NKY in Connelly, and an Oline that returns 5 players with varsity experience, Cary Thaxton 5'10" 225, Bradley Way 6'0" 270, Evan Kuderer 6'2" 280, Max Halpin 6'2" 265, and Tim Connaughton 6'3" 270. The Defense is going to be very good this year. Troy Timmerman will be one of the best D lineman in the area this year, 6'3" 245, and very fast.
