I know I'm hopping in a little late in the conversation, but I agree with Clyde here. It's hard to see at this point where Cov Cath stands. I'd say in all likelihood that at this time next year we'll have a little better perspective on how to go about ranking the Colonels during the off-season/pre-season, but simply because of the roller coaster the program has been through in the last 5 seasons, their "predictability" isn't so easy right now.

 

That being said, I think I'd have to agree largely with VOR on the rankings right now. No disrespect to Highlands, but I see Ryle as having the potential to overtake the Bluebirds this year - however, that remains to be seen. As for the nine and ten spots, I could personally see Boone, Holmes or Cooper fillingin either of the two spots. I just went with Boone & Holmes based on last season more than anything.

It would be great to have a team or two catch up with the Bluebirds this year (as happened with Holmes in basketball) but I'll have to see it to believe it. Cov. Cath. has a tsunami of talent coming up through the ranks starting with the middle school program but may still be a couple of years away from being able to seriously challenge the top teams in N.KY.

ukfanatic36, I mean skfanatic36, is really setting himself up as the biggest crow eater in the history of BGP after Ryle beats SK at Ryle this year. This is a record for total arrogance in post after post about one opposing team, especially so far in advance. Here's something to chew on: I believe that Ryle 2010 will be 2 TD's better than Ryle 2009 and SK 2010 wil be 2 TD's worse than SK 2009. So, maybe I do have SK rated too high at preseason #3 in NKY.

Ryle is overrated they lost there best recievers they will not better than last year sorry to say that. SK will have a more wide open air it out offense and have more overall team speed!

 

Ryle has a lot to prove in 2010. They are receiving high praises, appropriately, this season as they have many KEY returning starters.

 

SK just graduated the best RB in NKY in 15 years. To say that they are going to blow out their competition this year is very bold. Sage Powell is a tremendous talent but is not and will not be a legitimate replacement at RB for Simpson.

I certainly agree that Simspon simply can't be replaced, but let's not forget it was Chad Lawrence that really hurt Ryle this past season, and even kept the game very close against St. X in the play offs without Simpson. To say they'll pick up where they left off would be naive, but if SK can get some play from their O- Line, it could be another great season for the Pioneers.

Miles had 5 TDs vs Ryle last year. Sure, Chad hurt us too because he is a very good QB and runner, but Miles was by far the biggest difference maker on the field. Plus, Hansel was a man child machine along with very good other linemen. SK was the real deal last year and 3 TD's better than SK2008. SK 2010 will not be as good as SK2009 but will still be a good football team.

You seem to be the first to go out on a limb and put Boone in the top 5. A couple of questions for you to get some insight.

 

First, who are those that are returning, and what contributions do you see them making? I saw the Rebels once last year, and with the exception of Charles Q., no one really stood out as a big time playmaker. They did have a big tight end, and if he is returning, will make a good target for 1 or 2 of the 4 passes thrown each game.

 

Secondly, how will last year's tough schedule be easier this year? Won't Boone be playing the same teams as last year? Was the Anderson game a one year only deal?

 

I would love to share in your enthusiasm for a top 5 prediction for Boone, but unless there is a movement afoot by the coaching staff to re-tool the entire offensive game plan, I just don't see it happening. The playbook is too predictable and the competition in NKY 6A has advanced too much to make the old Boone Cty way of doing it as successful as it had been. JMO.

Whos going to be the other 5 starting? SK lost 3 starters on defense.

SK has 13 players over 230 pounds to stick on there OL I'am sure they will be fine one of them is 270 pounds I think they will be fine!

What does weight have to do with anything? You can be big but slow and not able to move anyone.

 

You want proof it's not all about size and weight on the lines?

They usually use linebackers for those positions and year in and year out have one of the most fundamentally sound lines on both sides of the ball. Rarely do you see them with massive offensive lineman that aren't in shape.
