How many losing season did they have prior to the previous 2?

I think you were looking at the wrong post DD-if you look I have not been positive at all of SK. The two powers noted by Walter were Beechwood and Highlands, and then he said Boone was the next most consistent team-and I said the consistency of state champions and also rans (Boone County) is a completely different story.

 

I am not on the SK bandwagon. They were good with Simpson, and I think their QB is a big time winer, but am not as enamored with the rest of the team as some other posters on BGP.

What don't you agree with the facts I laid out in front of you? Making it to the state Championship game is a great feat do you know how many schools have made the 4a/6a title game in the last decade besides X or T answer 4. Exactly 1 of those four teams defeated X or T in the playoffs to get to the finals. So you are correct that they haven't made the finals since 1994 but they have won more consistently in the playoffs than any of the current 6A schools in NKY. I am sure you will not agree with that but that is also a fact. I really hate having to defend Boone, but facts are facts.

 

You make valid point whatabout this, and I am not trying to diss Boone. I just believe they are satisfied with where they are and don't have the "true desire" to win it all. I believe they think that there is no way they can beat Trinity and X. I don't have the feeling Ryle's folks think the same way.

 

It really comes down to approach. Ryle offers a balanced attack on offense, while working hard on defense. Boone hasn't changed their offense approach in decades. I like to go to games (as a fan of neither club) and listen to the parents, and I am telling you the parents groan about the same things now at Boone County that they did 20 years ago. No creativity on offense. The parents can predict the next offensive call by the formations, etc. I just think Boone needs to realize what they are-a 6A school with a large population base, and the game has shifted to one where passing the ball 15-20 times per game is the norm, not the exception.

I'll up you one and say 5 and 5. :thumb: Their JV and freshmen had some success and that may add to the table for them to be slightly better than what people who don't follow underclassman talent think. I'll have to find you at some of the games this year.

Last year's freshmen will be very little help in a 6A schedule. You might get a couple kids to fill some positions but they are not going to get you wins. If you are counting on a number of freshmen to be your playmakers, you don't have the players yet to compete in 6A. I think Cooper is still one year away from cracking the N. Ky. top 10 but they have some good things going. They just need to keep working hard and the wins will come. The schedule will determine if they get to 5-5. If they fill in the non district games with smaller schools, they may get there this year.

 

If a Soph is good enough to play on the field, he will help the team. If a soph is playing out of need, it's obviously not a good situation. No offense, but I think your statement is a little soft. Several Sophs can play on Winning teams, if they are ready to play...according to posters, Cooper's freshman team was legit and are ready to see the Varsity field as Sophomores. If that is the case, they are one year away from cracking the top ten.

 

Last year, two sophs started for Highlands en route to the State Championship...One started because he was the best for the position, the other out of necessity.

Wrong! I don't love Boone...I love athletic competition regardless of the team! You could account the slipping to the fact that Boone was once primarily the main high school around. Now with the number of schools available the talent has been dispersed. Are you not aware of the fact that Boone played Anderson of Ohio, Highlands and Trinity last year, two of them back to back? Those are probably three of the better teams in the Tri- State area, so they 're not taking it easy on the schedule. The payoff from that was just three big butt whoopins! Ryles toughest opponents last year Highlands, SK and Trinity also put a thumping on them, so I don't really see the balancing logic in how that makes either team better. Teams will be as good as they prepare for ther talent level their facing.

 

I agree with you about SK, missing the talent of Simspon, Hansel and other Olinemen will take a toll on SK. Still should be an interesting year.

 

Ummm...Ryle did not take a thumping by Highlands or SK. Not the least. In fact Ryle/Highlands games were both pretty good games; the first game a couple long runs by AC put the game out of reach and the second game, some nice late run and pass plays did the same. SK controlled the ball and utilized their offensive diversity to get and keep an early lead. SK game was a little more out of hand but the weather was horrendous.

 

It was not T it was X that played Ryle and X had too much depth for Ryle...and everyone else in the state. To say Ryle did not benefit from the schedule is crazy. They did benefit, especially the many, many underclassmen starting on that team. Similar situation back in 05 and 06. Ryle gets blasted by Glen Este in opening game in 05 but played them very well in 06. Glen Este was actually 3rd best team in the city that year, which was equivalent to top 5 in state. 2010 is Ryle's 06. :sssh:

Okay! I guess overall I just think Ryle seems to have their sites set on a state championship, and in my opinion Boone County doesn't. I see the Ryle program rising or attempting to, and I don't feel the same way about Boone.

 

I really just can't remember the last time Boone beat somebody that they shouldn't have-maybe way back to when they had Shaun Alexander and beat Elder at Boone.

 

2008 vs. Henry Clay. HC was young but had more speed than Boone had ever seen. The difference there was turf v mud.

 

2004 vs. Dixie. Dixie had their best team ever.

If Bradley stays healthy and the O Line can hold there own I think Cooper will give Boone, Conner and Campbell all they want, toss up games IMO and I think they win 2 of 3. They had Lloyd down last year I believe by 14 or more in the 4th quarter and lost it at the end so I think they win that one this year. They beat Shawnee and Newport and I think they will again. Holmes will be interesting but I give the edge to Holmes overall speed. I believe they will beat Scott this year as well.

I agree, :thumb: Holmes could also beat them. Don't get me wrong, I like Cooper a lot. They have a lot of Great young men who are working the butts off to build that program. I still think think they are a year or two away. I hope I am wrong.

Whether or not it was a thumping is a matter of opinion. I watched the SK game on TV, and to me, it was a thumping and no excuses about the weather, it was the same weather for both of the teams. You admitted the both games with Highlands were put of reach, so IMO they pretty much controlled/thumped the opponent.

My statemnt about Ryle vs X was in response to the suggestion that they were playing a much harder schedule than Boone. So the benefit of their schedule is what it is to either team.

Nice point, but who really cares, it has nothing to do with what I posted. Opening games usually don't determine a season. Boone beat Lafayette (a pretty decent team) last year in their opener and look how their season turned out.

I see that Ryle is working to build a stronger program, but it's no superior to any other high school in BC. They have a good set of athletes that should give them two successful seasons and then what? :deadhorse:

 

Besides, they're the only BC public school with turf; they can practice year round regardless of weather, so they should be better.........RIGHT!

Great post! That's why you play the game. Cooper lost a couple of games pretty close last year, that could have gone the other way, so 5+ is attainable.
