Pre-Season Nky Top 10?

Featured Replies

Whos going to be the other 5 starting? SK lost 3 starters on defense.

Ryle's junior and sophomore to be classes are VERY GOOD. I'm sure they can find 5 capable players that know their role and simply do what they are told.

You're seriously underestimating Ryle and I have a feeling you're going to be eating a lot of crow here in a few months when Ryle beats SK by ATLEAST 2 td's. Quote me on that if you like.

What does weight have to do with anything? You can be big but slow and not able to move anyone.

You want proof it's not all about size and weight on the lines?

See Highlands o and d lines.

They usually use linebackers for those positions and year in and year out have one of the most fundamentally sound lines on both sides of the ball. Rarely do you see them with massive offensive lineman that aren't in shape.

A question for Walter,

You seem to know more about basketball, how is it you can hit a nerve on football?

Just curious.

Great point about the HHS line, usually small and very good. What's the saying, Strength punishes and Speed kills.

HHS line was all over 250 pounds?

I actually cover both basketball and football for nkysports.com.

I simply choose to talk basketball more than football during the off-seasons.

Once football season rolls around, you'll see me become more active and vocal on the football forum. :thumb:

Wrong again...their line was listed as following:

Ryan Hahn- 6'0 215 lbs

Bryan Beck- 6'2 235 lbs

Tyler Grubbs- 6'6 275 lbs

Hunter Schlosser- 6'0 235 lbs

Tyler Combs- 6'1 222 lbs

Pretty sure those were their starting 5 offensive linemen. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, and to go even further. Their starting D-end (Cam Dierig) is listed at 5'8 185 lbs.

You missed Cherokee Meyer, 6'1" 216

NO way will Campbell be in the top 10 at the end of the season, you have to score to win games. Who cares if your QB throws for 1500 yards when you never win, they had alot of player who could run the ball last year and choose not to use them, most QB would have the stat their QB had if they would throw 40 time a game. They still were one of the lowest scoring teams in NKY and never try to do anything difference.

Thanks...I wasn't sure if it were him or Beck that started.

Did Beck have an older brother or cousin that started center for Highlands back in 06'?

06 center would have been All Stater Scott Wise:thumb:

He does have an older brother, Eric, that played for Highlands. Was a LB and O lineman. Nice kid and football player.

Correct, with the exception that Henry pointed out. Meyer was the starting right guard, not Brian Beck. Brian was a defensive lineman. To further support your point, Combs weighed considerably less than 222 and I doubt Schlosser weighed 235. Probably closer to 225, except after a big night at the buffet. :D Highlands, because of their man blocking scheme and propensity to run the counter trap, has always emphasized speed and agility over size and strength.

I was watching the Cinti X game over the weekend, and Highlands was able to use their left guard to successfully block the linebacker stacked behind the nose guard on plays going to the right. In order to do that, the left guard has to step around and behind the center and block a linebacker that was lined up one player to his right on a play going to the right. To be able to do that, you better have linemen that can move their feet well and have speed and agility or that middle linebacker is going to make lots and lots of tackles.

We are able to run the counter trap so well, when every defense knows it's coming and prepares for it, simply because our O linemen move so well and can get out in front of the ball carrier. With most teams, their linemen are too slow to get out in front of the ball carrier and end up clogging up the hole.

I like the post made by Neerfan: strength punishes, speed kills. Oh so true.
