What Irks You Most About UK Fans?

Featured Replies

The 18% definitely irks me, but what also irks me is the UK fans that do nothing but criticize other UK fans and try to look good to other teams fans like they are the only reasonable UK fan in the state.

Every team has their 18%. Kentucky's 18% is just much larger.

I agree with what you all stated about some UK fans...i've had the opportunity through my career to live in Central North Carolina in 1998 and 1999 and I can assure you that Duke and UNC fans had just as many fans of what you speak of. In 2000-2002 I lived in Knoxville, in 2003-2004 I lived in Birmingham and now I live in Johnson City, TN....EVERY fan base has this type of fans. At least the teams that are good. I've seen it from every group. I despise the UK fans that do this, just like I do the UT, UNC, Duke, and Bama fans that i've lived around.

Making all of it OK, of course ...

You live in Kentucky, if you lived other places I am sure most of the same things would happen. Maybe(most likely ) on a smaller scale but it's not just UK. I am not saying any of it is right just saying it's not just UK. You are just exposed to them the most.

On a side note...the Wake Forest fans I hung out with when we lived in Winston Salem were pretty cool. They just laughed at the UNC and Duke fans for being so sensitive and silly. I can understand if you have lived your entire life in Kentucky not understanding what i'm talking about...but its a pretty big world out there and insane attitutes about people's favorite teams certainly stretches beyond the border.

The 18%ers are the most obnoxious fans in all of sports. UK does nothing wrong in their eyes....ever. They also have an elitist air about themselves that may or may not be deserving depending on how you rate the greatness of a college basketball program. I have despised UK ever since I was a kid. I grew up in Bowling Green and my father worked at WKU and we had season tickets for the basketball team. UK would never schedule a game with WKU. Louisville played WKU every year so as a kid I took it that UK felt they were too good or too scared to play WKU so I grew up with resentment toward UK. As I got older I actually attended UK as a student. I was there when Roderick Rhodes transferred(dismissed) from the team to clear room for Ron Mercer which was one of the strangest things I had ever seen and the 18ers all said he had done nothing in 2 years so they were okay with booting him off the team. I also think Tubby deserved better.

While UK fans have tremendous passion, pride and as Dicky V. says the most knowledgable basketball fans on the planet..... I can't stand the 18%ers and they ruin any chance of me rooting for UK basketball.

It is way more than 18%, would go as high as 60%(in my rural area) and the funny thing is they rubbed me the wrong way as far back as when I was 6 years old. I really do root for UK and guess would be a bonafide fan, but living in the state and hearing this 60% makes it hard to be a true blue fan. I am a true blue fan UK fan of the football and baseball teams,as well as the (local) Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, but never will be a true UK fan on account of their fans. Someone mentioned on here last night they would "cheer for 12 Russians" on the team as long as they won a title and trust me this is the attitude of 60% of their fanbase. I honestly think if they would cheer for Bin Laden as coach if he brought home a title:idunno:

I was there at the same time and I can assure you that there are PLENTY of UK fans that hated that Pitino did that. How many Louisville fans hate Pitino for that though I wonder. Did they care how he treated players when he was at UK? Rod wasn't the only one that was forced to give up their scholarship to make room. He did it in the early 90's too...i'm good friends with one that had to go...of course he refused to go to WKU as Pitino and I think Ralph Willard at the time had it set up. Rod for some reason is still one of my favorite all time Cats, and I know you aren't talking about ALL UK fans, I just wanted to make sure at least one UK fan on here would say that Pitino was/is a snake (a great coach too) and that not everything that is done is ok by all of us. Rod was there for 3 years, by the way.

To me the level that some fans (or non fans) complain about the "18%" is just as annoying as the 18% themselves.

Bandwagon fans is what irks me. If your a UK fan your there no matter what example last year, many fans just jumped on board this year.

My biggest issue is that many UK fans make it seem that if you live in Kentucky, you are some sort of traitor if you aren't a UK fan.

I honestly have never met a UL fan who felt that simply because you live in Louisville, you MUST be a Louisville fan.

Oh, and I'm still flabbergasted over the hatred toward Pitino for taking the job at UL.

My favorite from a UK fan last night was:

"Of course Jay Bilas would say that...he went to Duke."

Right after they said that, Bilas agreed that over an back call in favor of UK was a good call, even though we all knew it should've went the other way.

Agreed...

I feel some UK fans are like the cousin or uncle all of us have that always gets way too drunk at social events and makes a horses rear out of himself.

The "Media Conspiracy" fans are hillarious.

I mentioned this in a PM a few nights ago and I'm starting to think it's actually true. I believe that someone formed a search group to seek out our most ignorant fans. After finding the elite of the ignorant ones he then takes them to a top secret underground training center where they are taught to operate a computer in order to post on message boards. I believe this to be true because people of this ignorance level surely could not use a computer without extensive training.

^ I think these are the same people they put on TV when there is news in the trailer park. I always wondered how they always find them.

I have absolutely no doubt(zero doubt) that many UK fans would be in favor of Cal making a recruiting visit to OBL's cave if they truly thought that the 6' 10" son of Osama, Bubba Bin Laden could help lead UK to the basketball Promise Land.

I have to agree. I was called a hater by a guy I work with because I said, at the beginning of the basketball season, Calipari has had 30 win teams in the past but he still hasn't one the big game.
