Honestly what bothers people about UK fans is that they have to live in KY with us. I'm sure Texas A&M fans feel the same way about Texas, Auburn fans feel the same way about Alabama football, etc. Big, passionate fan bases get on smaller fan bases in that states nerves. Sure UK fans seem bad to U of L fans or whoever else you follow, but go to another state and it will be the same.

 

There are really only two solutions: Either get over it because nothings going to change and arguing/complaining/crying about UK fans is just as bad as UK fans complaining about losing, bad coaching, etc. Or move to a state where sports are irrelevant like the Dakotas or Montana.

New York Mets fans are the most obnoxious I have ever witnessed in person. Even moreso than Cubs fans. The difference is, they know they are obnoxious. They don't deny it. There are UK fans that don't realize how obnoxious they are.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what most of us UK fans say or don't say we will always be treated like we are wearing our Blue Blinders, (unless we are the ones who go out on threads and bow down to Duke or some other rival just so others will like us). I love UK, when watching a game if we walk or double dribble, I call it even if the ref misses it. I'm glad they did miss it but we are not so dumb to ignore the obvious calls. I believe that any rational UK fan that is a member on this site deserves a little more respect than we have been given or any school for that fact.

It is a Kentucky board, the majority will be Kentucky fans wanting to discuss issues amongst our own fan base without sarcastic comments coming into play.

 

If I go into a Duke thread and say I thought they deserved a Technical for slinging an elbow that is my viewpoint, if you disagree, fine. We'll agree to disagree. I won't start a thread on Duke fans and constantly beat them down.

 

I hate the stereotypes of all UK fans.

 

SUCCESS has caused this turmoil and I suppose that is fine, but when grown men/women want to argue all the time on a site where membership is paid for, it gets annoying that you feel like a black sheep for rooting for your own in state school on a site that is based in Kentucky. There is a reason we don't have 100 threads on Alabama Football (although Alabama Larry would love that) because we don't live in Alabama.

 

It has gotten to the point where if you are branded a UK fan (Thank Goodness) your opinion is always shaded with blue tint and that perspective is pathetic.

 

Let's end the continued witch hunt, please. it runs more members off than it brings in with all the negativity because I'd be real relcutant to join after reading some of the hits UK fans continue to receive time and time again.

The level of intensity and irritation of a fan base seems directly proportional to the level of success of the program. The Yankees, for example, create hatred either way. If you are a fan, it is easy to spit on anything and disrespect anything not a Yankee. Nothing else measures up in the fan's mind, and there are many championships to support their line of thought. Meanwhile, the Cubs (perennial losers) have fans that are adored or sympathized with because their team is not as threatening, and they don't have the success to back up any arrogance. UK, Duke, UNC, Louisville, etc. all have a level of success that breeds some portion of their fan base to be fanatics, and this causes an allergic reaction from the opposing fans. It is what helps make rivalries great no matter which side you take.

Not true. It is just the majority that's all. And BTW, I don't look down on anybody because of who they are a fan of.

Who has ever said that it was? You're taking things way out of context. As far as I can tell this board is no affiliated with any team, but the reality of the situation is that UK is the biggest college fan base on this board. That doesn't mean everyone has to like them, heck I think it's better when there are alot of teams represented. :idunno:

Technically, as the name of the board indicates, it is "Bluegrasspreps", it is a high school board. All the other forums, including college, pro sports, general discussion, etc are added benefits, but not the primary intent of the board.

Okay, so if non-UK fans want to discuss something involving UK we should expect ignorance and immaturity because we are in Ky and this is a Ky board? And if we don't like it, we should move?

I paid my membership dues just like the rest of you. I'll post what I want to within the rules. I expect irrational behavior and comments from most UK fans. I enjoy disussing college basketball with rational UK fans because the rational ones love college basketball more than the average fan and they usually are extremely knowledgable.

 

 

And yes, BGP is by far and away the best message board to discuss college basketball on. Most viewpoints are discussed with a higher degree of maturity than on other boards. I can say if I acted on BGP the way that UK and UNC fans acted on the Duke message board I frequent then I would be suspended from BGP with no chance to come back. That irks me too.

GT, I don't think any of us are looking down on anyone else for not being a UK fan if they are not.

 

It is a Kentucky sports Website, you are right. No one said it was a UK Basketball Board.

 

It is just that this board originates from Kentucky and the majority of people that are members I'm failry positive are Kentuckians and the majority of Kentuckians are Kentucky fans.

 

We are all here because we love sports, no doubt. That is why we have threads on almost every collegiate, professional and local team in the USA.

 

Still the majority of members whether they post a lot or not would be UK fans based strictly on percentage. There is nothing wrong with that, that I can see. Our message just gets sent in different ways and numerous threads because there are so many of us on this board who want to either start a topic or continue one, therefore, there will be a lot of ramblings of the same issues because not everyone logs onto the site at the same time and sees these messages all at once.
