CCC, I have been branded a UK "hater" which is totally untrue. And that's what is really irksome. I've said things in observation and when I do, I get the whole "hater" mantra, and then someone chimes in with a Pitino slam. The fact of the matter is that many people are branded by some UK fans as "haters", when in fact they're simply expressing the same opinions as many others who aren't UK fans. I don't have a problem being in the minority about anything. But I sure hate having my contributions to a discussion dismissed simply because I happen to be a fan of another team.

 

And UK fans get labeled as biased and wearing blue tinted glasses ALL THE TIME... Regardless of whether they have a legitimate gripe or not.

I agree with you. That's similar to what happens in UL threads as well. It shouldn't be that way. And I actually really enjoy a good discussion with fans of other teams. I think it's good to get different perspectives.

Their arrogance and their better than you attitude has always been a turn-off to me. Yes, historically, they have a great program but I don't need to be told about how great they are. They never give credit to those who beat them. Still complaining about losing to Duke and not realizing that Duke was the better team.

We've all wasted so much time on this thread it is funny. I had to force myself not to look at it while I was in my office today. I love sports, always have...I love the drama of it, the spectacle, everything. At the end of every NCAA Tournament I tear up watching a team lose a heartbreaker clip in One Shining Moment and I long for the next one to start. The problem is...EVERY fan base has become so sensitive and EVERY fan base has become so hateful to each other it almost isn't fun anymore. I have a 10 year old daughter that I don't take to sporting events for fear of what she will hear and be around since the ONE trip to UK - UT football in Knoxville year before last. It really is a shame and I hope one day it will get better.

 

I stated on another board that I though John Wall would win 1st Team AA instead of Scheyer and got blasted for being a Duke hater. I'm not a Duke hater at all. I'm a HUGE UK fan, but I think Christian Leatner is the greatest college bball player of the ESPN era...I loved the way Hurly played...I think Grant Hill was super...I just didn't think Scheyer is that great and got totally blasted.

 

I guess I just really don't know where and why it all started, but it is horrible and I've so many times wished I could just cancel my membership here or stay out of the college threads...but like Rock Mom, love to talk to sensible fans, and I love the recruiting insight of Wireman and GT. Unfortunately the number of SENSIBLE fans of all respective fan bases on BGP seems to be far less than 18%. On a side note...if I've ever said anything to anyone that seemed out of line, I really apologize. I can be very sarcastic in a funny way...(the humor doesn't always come out in the typed word).

Hope we have a thread when John Wall declares for the pros and then say "good riddance" to him. That would probably get folks to "land the plane."

 

I'm sure that player at Kansas did a lot to harm UK fans over the years?:confused: However, had he been part of Big Blue Nation, folks would be saying how he got pushed and shoved in games, and man how did he ever keep his composure?

GT, I don't think any of us are looking down on anyone else for not being a UK fan if they are not.

 

It is a Kentucky sports Website, you are right. No one said it was a UK Basketball Board.

 

It is just that this board originates from Kentucky and the majority of people that are members I'm failry positive are Kentuckians and the majority of Kentuckians are Kentucky fans.

 

We are all here because we love sports, no doubt. That is why we have threads on almost every collegiate, professional and local team in the USA.

 

Still the majority of members whether they post a lot or not would be UK fans based strictly on percentage. There is nothing wrong with that, that I can see. Our message just gets sent in different ways and numerous threads because there are so many of us on this board who want to either start a topic or continue one, therefore, there will be a lot of ramblings of the same issues because not everyone logs onto the site at the same time and sees these messages all at once.

That's because you're a UK fan. Of course you wouldn't notice it. Maybe I'm living in the wrong part of the state (and considering I'm in Eastern Kentucky where we supposedly know nothing but Kentucky basketball, I doubt I am), but I've seen the same conversation occur many times and it was never more than good natured ribbing to serve as an ice breaker.

 

If someone is serious about their dislike of a person just because of the team they cheer for, they need a couple extra Teddy Grahams before their nap.

I am not saying UK does not have a bunch of crazed lunatics rooting for them, but what in the world does "good riddance" in reference to Cole Aldrich have to do in indicting the fan base? :idunno: What is everyone supposed to say? "Good luck in the NBA, Cole. We are going to miss you!" I am sure everyone in Lawrence, Kansas is dreading the day Wall and Cousins officially declare for the draft. Give me a break. As many people have said, if being a UK fan is some sort of illness, the attempts of trying to point out their flaws is just as big of one.

I like fans that root strongly for their team, but acknowledge that the other team is there to win also. Some fans that I have seen firsthand that have a lot of class are: Wisconsin-football and hoops, Xavier-basketball, Wake Forest-basketball, Kentucky-football, Vanderbilt-football, Miami (Oh)-football and hoops, Western Kentucky-hoops. Just a few off the top of my head that I have experienced at games myself over the years. Kentucky-basketball and Ohio State-football are the absolute worst.

 

I think it is great to have fun and root for your team, but my goodness, is it life altering if Duke wins this years tournament or Michigan State, or Butler or WVU? Sports are for entertainment. Too many folks-not you-I've read some of your posts act like the players or coaches give a hoot about them. Most don't. Rick Pitino, in my opinion, used to mock Cats fans when he was UK's coach with the absurdity of their zealousness. Winning the championship doesn't alter the state's poor acedemic record, or poverty level, or really anything important.

I have no problems with fans who are passionate about their teams. Heck, I'm passionate about my Cards. But I do have a problem with people who have to demean other programs if a discussion turns to any sort of question about one or the other.
