Technically, as the name of the board indicates, it is "Bluegrasspreps", it is a high school board. All the other forums, including college, pro sports, general discussion, etc are added benefits, but not the primary intent of the board.

 

Which probably means if we all don't start playing nicely we could lose those added benefits which many of us have really come to enjoy.

Okay, so if non-UK fans want to discuss something involving UK we should expect ignorance and immaturity because we are in Ky and this is a Ky board? And if we don't like it, we should move?

I paid my membership dues just like the rest of you. I'll post what I want to within the rules. I expect irrational behavior and comments from most UK fans. I enjoy disussing college basketball with rational UK fans because the rational ones love college basketball more than the average fan and they usually are extremely knowledgable.

I joined the site right before High School football started, I wanted to interact with fans of local High Schools. I had a son who played. Had no idea there would be so much fun discussing Religion and being able to pray for others and have them pray for me/Family.

Honestly what bothers people about UK fans is that they have to live in KY with us. I'm sure Texas A&M fans feel the same way about Texas, Auburn fans feel the same way about Alabama football, etc. Big, passionate fan bases get on smaller fan bases in that states nerves. Sure UK fans seem bad to U of L fans or whoever else you follow, but go to another state and it will be the same.

 

There are really only two solutions: Either get over it because nothings going to change and arguing/complaining/crying about UK fans is just as bad as UK fans complaining about losing, bad coaching, etc. Or move to a state where sports are irrelevant like the Dakotas or Montana.

All of the reasons given are solid but also things that I see in a lot of fan bases.

Easy PP. I never said that people shouldn't discuss their teams or whatever they want. I just get sick of people complaining about UK fans on a board where a pretty good chunk of the membership follows the Blue and White. It's kind of pointless. I don't care about smack talk or things like that, if people want to rub it in that UK lost, they should do it and I hope they do. That's fun.

 

I just think that people have to expect that UK fans are going to take up for their team and always feel that UK is better than they actually are. Look at OSU football fans and how they would say for a few years that they were the best program in America and were so confident in the MNC game against UF. It's just part of being a fan. Almost everyone makes excuses for their team at one point or another, it's just human nature. People will say "wait til next year" or "we had a bad night", because that's easier than saying the other team is better.

 

I just think that people who cry about UK fans are hypocritical. UK fans complain when the team isn't doing well, UK haters complain when UK is doing well. In reality, UK has a huge fan base in KY, and I think people need to realize that Cats fans are not the only fan base in America who are this passionate about their team. So that's why I say move on. It's not that UK haters thoughts aren't probably true, it's that people act like UK fans are the only people in the world who do any wrong.

 

Basically, if you live in Kentucky you're going to hear about UK basketball. If you live in most parts of Ohio, you're going to hear about Ohio State football. I just don't see the point in complaining about something you can't change. My goodness, there is a thread where you can site the most/least annoying UK fan....that's pathetic.

CCC, I have been branded a UK "hater" which is totally untrue. And that's what is really irksome. I've said things in observation and when I do, I get the whole "hater" mantra, and then someone chimes in with a Pitino slam. The fact of the matter is that many people are branded by some UK fans as "haters", when in fact they're simply expressing the same opinions as many others who aren't UK fans. I don't have a problem being in the minority about anything. But I sure hate having my contributions to a discussion dismissed simply because I happen to be a fan of another team.

You know, I find this discussion what makes it so much fun to be a fan. Isn't fan simply short for fanatic? I mean, I find it totally normal that people like a team to the point they become a fan, and even a fanatic. I do not condone taking it to the extreme where being a fan hurts someone else, either physically or emotionally. But dang, just be a fan and cheer on your team - who ever it is. Yea, debate with others who is better and all that, that is what makes it great. No one will ever agree with everything that another teams fans do - I mean, besides a browns fan who agrees with throwing dog bones at the opposing players, fans, etc???? :lol: Heck, I think we can even have discussions like these with regards to just about anything - I mean, I might like Burger King and you might like Wendys..............

That shouldn't happen either, so I see your point. At times it does seem like people pile on in bad UK discussions, but I guess that's what the board is for....people to offer their own opinions. I definitely wasn't thinking of you or PP when I made my statement earlier, it's just kind of sad that some people's greatest enjoyment during the tourney was seeing UK lose. Cheer for your team people. Until the last year or so I always, always, cheered for U of L when they didn't play UK but I just can't bring myself to do it anymore. So many U of L fans go out of their way to bring smack at UK and UK fans. I just don't see where the hate comes from.

 

UK fans are bad? Okay UK is THE main school in a Commonwealth that doesn't have a whole lot for the state to rally around. At worst UK is a top 4 program All-time, realistically they probably have to be in the top 2. UK fans have seen alot in their time and expectations continue to grow and grow. People that live here and don't follow UK see it as annoying, but as sad as it is to say some people in KY live and die by the Cats. People dedicate rooms in their house to UK basketball and all kinds of stuff. And like I said it's not the only sports team in America who has a following like that. People on both sides just need to focus on their own teams when they think about sports.

I understand where you are coming from but seeing as how this is predominately a UK board, you should know that there are some UK fans that make things difficult for rational guys such as yourself, Hatz and AverageJoesGym come to mind. There are plenty more rational UK fans on this board as well. What gets irritating, especially as a Duke fan, is when there is a Duke thread, UK fans get in the thread to spew their hate for Duke by discrediting everything Duke does(see Duke 78 Baylor 71 thread). When I get in on a thread about UK I always try to be objective and rational and if I don't think I can do that, I stay away from the thread. I don't have to be a UK fan to talk about UK in an objective and rational way. I don't think it's asking too much to have the same thing in a non UK thread. Just because this board is predominately a UK board does not mean that everything not associated with the greatness of UK should just be spat on.

The same way you are tired of hearing people complain about UK fans, I am tired of having to defend everything that favors Duke. Especially when no matter what you say or what evidence or stats you may bring up, the haters still see through their UK tinted sunglasses and discredit the stats.

 

I can admit when I am wrong. Can't I Cats3X?(I'd still take Kobe over LeBron even though LeBron is a better overall player but Kobe is still the most clutch player in the NBA.)

Hey man I agree with everything you said. I guess I just wish people got along about sports teams. I know fans of a certain team want the rival/hated team to lose, and that makes sports even better IMO. I guess I just don't like that people think UK has the only fans that act like that, though UK probably is at the top of the line for having some of the toughest to deal with.

 

I know it's funny to other teams fans when UK loses because of alot of factors and that's fine. But I think it's better to talk some smack or laugh about UK losing than it is to complain about it if you know what I mean.

 

Shoot, I'll admit I didn't think WVU had a shot against UK. Someone could probably find a post where I said something like that. Throw that in my face (because it is funny I was so biased to think that), instead of talking about things that are never going to change. I guess what I was saying is that UK fans are always going to annoy U of L, Duke, UNC, & other fans in this state, all I ask is that if people are going to do something about it, do something constructive.:thumb:

BTW PP, I hope the NBA playoff discussions can top last years :laugh:.
