Here is one more angle to take a look at...

 

UL had a down season. UK was on top of the world at times. Of course UL fans are going to complain, misery loves company. I'm sure we seemed extra obnoxious to them this season as they did to us last season.

 

It's the exact opposite of last season. UL had a great season and UK was average at best. Last year UK fans looked for any opportunity to belittle what UL had accomplished.

 

 

For the record, I'm not at all upset that UK had a great year. I am disappointed in the Cards' season, yes. But why does that mean I automatically belittle anything the Cats accomplished.

 

I'm not complaining, I'm not miserable.

You left out the first comment that started the other two. How's that a hard concept to understand.

 

 

 

I left them out because the very first comment was made by a UK fan, the very one who had started the thread, and the first reply that I posted was relevant to both the comment and a fair assessment of what UL fans thought of Pitino when he was at UK.

 

The 2nd reply, not at all. To insinuate that fans condone Pitino's off court "issues" is not only false, but meanspirited, spiteful, and posted only to rile posters.

But it's okay RM, only Louisville fans are victims here. Like I said earlier it's all sad and pathetic IMO.

Being an "outsider" (I moved permanently to the Commonwealth in 1978, so I'm still viewed with suspicion), the fanaticism of many UK fans surprised me at first. Folks dropped everything to listen to games on the radio or watch on TV. Coming from a "football family", I just didn't get it. I chose to look at the University's checkered past with respect to the basketball program and took the position that I would not be a fan.

 

Fast-forward to 1992. Fresh on the heels of another scandal, Rick Pitino coaches up a group of kids that have no business giving Duke a game, only to produce what many have called the greatest college basketball game of all time. A big product of that team's success was Mason County's Deron Feldhaus. However, my son had just become a student in the Mason County school system and my daughter was 2, so I was much more of a Maysville fan than a Mason County fan at the time. Still no compelling reasons for me to join the Big Blue bandwagon.

 

Fast forward to 2004. Son has graduated from Mason County (1998) and an SEC school not located in Lexington (2002), daughter is an 8th grader, and the Royals have just completed an amazing 2-year run with successive appearances in the championship game of the Sweet 16. Chris Lofton is named Mr. Basketball but doesn't get recruited by UK. Many in this small town feel cheated, and Tennessee merchandise makes its way into local stores for the first time that anyone can remember. Gives me a reason, albeit not the greatest reason in the world, to stay off the bandwagon for 4 more years.

 

Fast-forward to 2008. Mason County wins another state title and one of my daughter's friends and classmates is named Mr. Basketball and signs with the Wildcats (she was one of only 3 girls to be invited to his birthday party when he was in the 4th grade ). The ice is starting to melt. The Tennessee shirts go into mothballs.

 

2010. Kentucky rises from the ashes. Miller is inconsistent, but shows flashes of brilliance; particularly in the big dance. The Wildcats are both fun to watch and are relevant again; a combination that hasn't been present in Lexington for quite some time, and I am glad that a local product is part of the turnaround.

 

Will I ever be a rabid fan of Kentucky basketball? Probably not. However, in the span of a mere 32 years, there are some who would say that I've made "progress".

I love to get a rise out of people. People talked about things they didn't like about UK, so I thought I'd just make everyone a little mad after a while.

I'm not sure how you couldn't be. Reading through this thread made me miserable. It's like a train wreck...I don't enjoy it but I can't turn away. :popcorn:

 

I think I'm a 64%er.

My biggest problem with UK fans is that they watch me sleep at night, and frankly that distrubs me. I'm also not for certain they a majority of them are not responsible for 9/11.

I wasn't directing my post at you or any other Card fans on the BGP. I made my observation based on visits to UL's/UK's rivals board.

 

I actually feel like the majority of UL/UK fans on this board are pretty civil. If you want to see some real crazies, visit the rivals board.

Definitely... BGP is a great board for discussion... No point in messing with those others. If you disagree, you're an idiot... Who needs to rationalize?

I use to be a UK fan. UNC and UK were my top two teams growing up. I was told by grown ups or older kids that I could not like both, that I had to pick one. So I told them fine and picked UNC. Which brought on more of their wrath.

 

I have several more stories that pushed me to dislike UK fans.
