October 21, 200520 yr If you discuss the subject of private vs public, all of the private school supporters claim there is no invitations of individuals for sports. Its all about the better education and the religious and social values as the advantages. So why has this proposal to split athletic championships drawn such anger and genuine bitterness from you people? It really is condescending the way many of you portray those who have a difference of opinion with you on this subject. Almost every person whom sides with the privates use adages of a worthless championship if you don't compete against a clearly superior opponent such as the privates are. These same people claim privates dont have athletic advantages, if they don't have any advantages then how do these split championships not have any value. If the playing field is level as you all claim then both private and public championships certainly should be coveted. You can't have it both ways. Only private school supporters will diminish a state championship by Sheldon Clark, if they don't beat a private school. I feel certain all of Martin County would pour in to whatever venue it is to supporter their local kids. What is any different to split privates for titles than to split school size. Is Beechwoods titles in Class A tarnished by the fact they didn't beat Trinity? Is Belfry's titles meaningless because they didn't beat Cov Cath?
October 21, 200520 yr The champagne corks are popping over at Male high school as we speak. Red must be the happiest man on earth. Titles as far as the eye can see. They won't mean anything but they will be won nontheless. I really hope that X romps male Friday. I'm sure the corks are popping on Poplar Level Road in Coach Mike Glaser's office. All he has to do is beat Trinity, which hasn't been to hard of late. If the 4A trophy in public schools is gonna be called the Redman trophy, I'm sure the trophy in the private schools will be called the Glaser trophy. We can argue all we want no one is gonna win. Face folks, this argument is gonna go on forever, or at least as long as they split them up.
October 21, 200520 yr Well if Manual only accepts students under very strict criteria, why was a former Trinity sophmore (and football player) allowed to transfer? It all happened in a matter of a couple of days. Explain that. Isn't it true that Manual has and has had students from outside Jefferson County?Because he met the critria and since you bring it up how was a freshman football player from Manual able to get into Trinity so quick when he transfered the same week. The fact is both kids chose to change schools there was nothing dirty about either one.
October 21, 200520 yr Is Beechwoods titles in Class A tarnished by the fact they didn't beat Trinity? Is Belfry's titles meaningless because they didn't beat Cov Cath? Beachwood beats NCC twice a Year to get there, and Belfry dumped O Cath in a State game...
October 21, 200520 yr Its really nice to pigeonhole H in with all the proponents of P20, as if all public schools supporters are just craving an easier path. If he says he isn't in favor of it, I see no reason for anyone to insult his integrity by insinuating that he is sacrificing the truth just to be PC. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Almost every person whom sides with the privates use adages of a worthless championship if you don't compete against a clearly superior opponent such as the privates are.I don't think the people who have the good sense to oppose this division are considering themselves superior. I think they are at a loss to explain why so many public schools would want to pursue this option. What other conclusion can they come to other than the fact that these schools simply want to win more championships--regardless of the depth of their competition. Or should I say, "The lack thereof"? Just for the record, I went to public school. Our greatest competition always came from the private schools--NCC and later CCHS. Sometimes, they ended our season sooner than we would have liked. We wouldn't have had it any other way!

October 21, 200520 yr Beachwood beats NCC twice a Year to get there, and Belfry dumped O Cath in a State game... I think your missing his point. Just cause they beat a Catholic school doesn't rebute his point which is neither Beachwood nor Belfry would beat Trinity so why celebrate their titles?
October 21, 200520 yr I think your missing his point. Just cause they beat a Catholic school doesn't rebute his point which is neither Beachwood nor Belfry would beat Trinity so why celebrate their titles? Beechwood has owned the recent series with CCH, who I would put on the same level with T or X in a lot of Years. Boyle and Danville have been good enough to beat anyone in the not so distant past as well. Same with poor little 4A Dixie. Shenanigans (bugatti 2002)...
October 21, 200520 yr I must state, who really cares??? It's HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS...yes, I am a fan of my teams and love sports, but let's try to have a little perspective here. I know this post will garner much backlash and negative remarks, but I really don't care. IMHO, it's ridiculous...BOTH sides. Also, one gets the impression from reading this that it's all about football. Personally, it looks like the private schools hold much greater sway in the minor sports. Have any public schools EVER wonn state in volleyball? Who's the last public school to win state in swimming or tennis? I really don't know, but I imagine those instances have been few and veeeeeeeery far between. Anyway, I'm surprised it passed, probably won't be enacted as it stands now, might have some compromise put in place, I don't know. In any event, the sun will come out tomorrow and a billion or so Chinese will not know a thing about it.
October 21, 200520 yr The private schools should form their own association and the schools that want to play for a meaningful state championship should join them! The KHSAA trophy should now be made of balsa wood and plastic. Are you sure you want to make the new KHSAA trophy that prestigious? Whatever it is made of, it needs to be colored yellow to represent cowardice.
October 21, 200520 yr First, let me state that I always thought that KY had too many classes for football before. If this separation of the private schools happens (and I feel comfortable that it won't) then at least the remaining public schools should be reorganized into only three classes. Second, all of this talk about what's "fair" or whether the playing field is "level" or not is just useless chatter (and sounds a lot like whining). There have been rules in the past and they might change any number of ways but there's always going to be complaints that something's not "fair". Is it fair that some schools have more fans, supporters, hard-working and inspiring coaches, long traditions, etc. while other schools have fallen on hard times? A kid only has four years in HS (although there can be exceptions to that too for those who care to remember) and if that kid happens to live in Bourbon County or Bryan Station's district and is serious about football, he's going to think that life is somehow "unfair" and that he was somehow cheated out of an experience that every kid should have. It's really pretty sad if you think about it. Third, outright recruiting doesn't really happen as much as people think it does (if ever!). I'd say that Fayette County School Board could do a lot to prevent public kids from going to LexCath by simply making the Bryan Station a more desirable place to go. Instead, they seem hell bent on passing out most of the perks (new facilities, magnet programs, etc.) to the schools that already have people climbing over each other to get in to. That doesn't seem "fair" either if you're in Station's district. A lot of life is just luck, good and bad. There are always going to be people with more than you and people with less than you and it will never seem "fair". There's only so much you can do to improve this illusion of "unfairness" before you have to start turning inward and working on improving yourself.
October 21, 200520 yr In any event, the sun will come out tomorrow and a billion or so Chinese will not know a thing about it.Do you have any idea how many ping-pong championships Qinghai Province has brought home? It's obviously not playing on a level table! :irked:

The arguement against Prop 20 and it's friends by most isn't about the handful of private or public/independent "haves"; its about what happens to the mostly "law abiding" smaller privates (class A's mostly); who don't and won't have the financial wherewithall to become these regional giants, and lack the numbers to compete for anything among themselves!! This will change nothing, except the name of the dominent teams in 4-A football, and some girls' championships. Most of the rest will remain the same. I guess someone else will win boy's swimming too, but the times will be a joke!!
