There are several divisions of the Indiana Elite teams. I am refering to the 17U group.

There was an IE team playing in the 17U group, they had at least 4 guys over 6'6" or 6'7".

The 17 U group has 5 players 6'9 or taller:

Ajou, Cheir 7'1

Leek, Deng 6'11

Plumlee, Marshall 6'11

Zeller, Cody 6'9

Vinny Zollo 6'9

They were off this week. Not sure the group you saw.

I watched the Hoop Dreams 16U team beat the snot out of the big time NY Gauchos squad 72-49 in the first round of tournament play last night. Beckham had I think 21 going right at the rim against what many consider the best guard producing program in the nation...

Who else is on that team? Impressive showing. I am a huge Jaylen Beckham fan despite my allegiance to Boyle County that doesn't allow me to like LexCath.:D

Tam Manning and Isiah Ivey were the other big time players...

I hope those two blow up for Scott County next year. I know the potential they both have but the times that I watched Scott County play they seemed to play with a lack of confidence. I expect both of them to make more of a name for themselves next year with more shots available. I look forward to watching them continue to play as well. LexCath vs Scott County. I can't wait.

Team KY will be playing at the KBA this weekend, where are the other 16u and 17u playing this weekend?

SS-Davis 17U according to my sources is off this weekend. Will double check today.

Indiana Eilite 17U, I believe is at Ft. Wayne Ind.

SS-16U in Dayton

DS -16U, not sure I will find out.

Do you have the time that Team Ky plays?

Ft. Wayne is where it is "AT" this weekend. The Spiece Run-N-Slam Tournament is one of the top tournaments this side of the Mississippi.

The Run-N- Slam is a great tournament if you have a USSSA team. It's awfully hard to a 'regular' AAU team to compete with teams that have unlimited exemptions.

Good competition and a great facility.

Once you are in the high school ranks, 14U and up an AAU team can have as many age exceptions that they want. The player just can't be two years older than they should be and they have to be in the grade that they are playing in. The only exception is at the 17U age level if you are an unsigned senior.

In the high school age divisions most AAU teams are all-star teams, the "average" players start to get weeded out.

Playing in the "big" tournaments is what gets the kids seen (especially at the D1 level, but also, D2 and NAIA). Tournaments like the Real Deal on the Hill, Pittsburgh Jam-Fest, King James, Knox-vegas, Spiece Run-n-slam, Bob Gibbons, Adidas It-takes-five, Morgantown Harley Davidson Classic are where the All-star AAU teams are playing. Post season they are either going to Vegas or Orlando.

If you look at past rosters of some of the All-star AAU teams, you will see that almost every player on those teams are playing or will play college ball somewhere. That is why parents put the time and effort in teams like that.

If they go D1, D2 or NAIA they are getting athletic scholarship money to pay for their education. Below the D1 level the athletic money depends on how bad they want the player and what academic and financial aid (if eligible) money doesn't pay for.

But, the biggest thing that kids tend to forget, they can't play at the D1, D2, NAIA or even D3 level without having the appropriate ACT score, high school grades and class academic ranking. No matter how good they are if they don't have the previous list, they end up going JUCO or not going to school at all.

The Spiece facility is top notch and the tournament is ran extremely well. Can't wait to get up there Friday...

Team KY plays at the KBA this weekend, on Saturday Team KY plays Clay Co. at 4 PM, and Whitley Co. at 7 PM.

Any other 16s or 17s playing in the next 3 weeks?

Team KY is also in the Rising Stars tourney in Charleston WV next weekend along with SS-Davis and DSAS.

Unlimited grade exceptions begin in the U15, not U14. U14 is still limited to a maximum of 3.

SSS 15U Bundy came in 3rd and qualified for division 1 nationals at The Kingdom Center super regionals this past weekend. They are really starting to play as a team and should do well at the nationals in Little Rock this coming July. Good luck to them!!
