Summer Ball

NKY Heat 16u has most of their players back and went 2-0 up in Dayton today in pool play. They are playing 17U this weekend. The first game was a close one winning by 6. The game was tied with about 3 minutes left and Ja'Keith Pitts (Holmes) put the team on his back and scored two quick baskets. Tate Mullins (Ryle) made several free throws at the end of the game to put it away. The second game was a 30+ point win for NKY Heat. Very balanced scoring and total team effort in both games.

They advance to the championship bracket in the 17u division. Team Kentucky and one of the Shining Stars teams are in this too. Anyone know how they did today in pool play?

See my post above . I posted Team Ky won both their games today, one of thier games was against the SS team. I will add they won their pool. Play again in the morning.

Thanks for the recap coach. Good to hear Pitts keeps playing well..

How did Stephens of Holmes do?

Pitts is playing really well right now. There still has not been anyone that has been able to match his quickness on the floor. There is a nice inside/outside game with him and Doss from SK. If they stop him from penetrating he just dishes to Doss inside. He is very fun to watch.

Stephens played good defense as usual. He actually put the ball on the floor a few times and took it to the rim. I think his offensive game will come to him this summer.

This team has been looking for another post player for a while and just picked up Hunter Hoskins from Holmes. He played with them this weekend. He played well today too. He is very athletic and strong and gives them more options with Doss/Stephens/Hoskins at the post positions.

Team Kentucky and Shining Star were in the same pool, Team KY won the pool, and Shining Star came in second. Both teams play again at 9:30 am, both very well could meet again in the finals.

Team KY is still without Zach Perkins and their big man, who are both out with injuries.

Good to hear...Doss is the transfer from Boone, right?

Hoskins is another kid that's going to be a good one for Holmes over the next two years. Like Stephens, he is still somewhat raw offensively, but with the proper training over the summer he could really flourish and develop in to one of the better forwards in nky by his senior year.

Holmes could have a very good front court rotation next year with 6'4 D. Rice, 6'5 Hoskins, 6'6 Rice, and 6'9 Stephens.

Team KY could not get anything going this morning and were upset ad the other team jumped out to a 22 point lead quick, they were a very good shooting team, almost every shot was a three and they all were falling. Team KY did get it down to 12, but those threes started falling again for the other team, they also cut it to about 11 with about a min to play, but could not get any closer. It was just one of those games.

Team KY plays next weekend at the KBA

Yes, Doss went to Boone his freshman year and then transferred to SK for his sophomore year.

NKY Heat 16U made it to the final four of the Championship bracket of the Dayton tournament. They lost in the final four to the team that Team KY played in the Elite 8. Just like in their game, this team could not miss a shot. They shot the ball very well and most shots were 3-pointers. NKY Heat hung with them for the first half, but then they put it away early in the 2nd half. But, they still had a decent showing for their 2nd tournament, placing 3rd in the 17U division.

That was a very impressive little shooting team, you need to be on when facing that team.

How did the Shining Star team do the rest of the way? I was thinking that they would make it to the finals?

Team Ky won both of their games today.

SS-Davis won one and lost one today in Nashville. Play again at 8:00 tonight.

Indiana Elite is off this weekend.

Indiana Elite was playing in a tournament in Indianapolis.

I watched the Hoop Dreams 16U team beat the snot out of the big time NY Gauchos squad 72-49 in the first round of tournament play last night. Beckham had I think 21 going right at the rim against what many consider the best guard producing program in the nation...

Beckham is going to be big time, GT.

Kid has an amazing work ethic and if he develops a consistant jump shot and adds some strength, he'll be a legit top 50 player, IMO.

Did he play at SK this past season? I thought I read on BGP that he played over there. Based KHSAA rules wouldn't he have to sit out a year before becoming eligible to play at SK? i believe that he played at one of Boone's feeder middle schools before he went to Boone Co. HS

JR did not have to sit out this year because he did not see any varsity minutes as a freshman.

There are several divisions of the Indiana Elite teams. I am refering to the 17U group.

Scott County 14u team qualifies for the AAU nationals in Orlando Fl. with a great defensive effort. Beat most by 25-40 points. Lost in the semi finals to a very good Trinity team . :dancingpa
