If Danville is calling for Sam Harp's head...well then, folks, NOBODY will ever be popular for long in high school football coaching.

The fair weather fans were calling for his job in the late 90's as well. So they went out and won state in 00,01,and 03. Maybe they will go on another streak.

The head coach is only as good as his assistants. Are there any issues with his assistants?

 

As far as Harp goes, he is and deserves to be untouchable, period.

My worry for the Danville program comes more so from hearing parents and fans of Danville who think out loud if Harp is still good for the program. We all know what he has done for the Admiral program and what he will continue to do. I just wonder if the Admiral players, parents and fans still buy into what Harp is teaching. It seems like they bought into it a lot more when they were winning and now that they don't win like they are used to he is bearing the blame and it seems he is losing fans by the day. Doesn't make it right, but it does make it a reality. A good season next year would quiet the doubters, but if they lose in the second round of the playoffs again the way they did this past year, you can rest assured they will become louder. Again, doesn't make it right, but it does make it a reality.

The Boyle football program had very little success until the last fifteen years. When Chuck Smith was hired everything changed. Chuck Smith would probably tell you in his early years at Boyle when he was getting beat every year by Danville it probably pushed him harder and the assistants to try and get were Danville was. My point is Sam Harp not only elevated Danville football but football for the entire area. From a Rebel fan I still think he is a great coach and this may be the dumbest thread i have ever responded to.If you put something negative about Sam Harp on here you know very little about high school football.

Boyle had a few good runs of good teams long before Chuck Smith arrived. Did they win state titles in those days? no. But they were winning programs that chalked up wins over very good teams from Danville, Somerset, Harrodsburg, Henry Clay, among others.

Sam Harp is a quality man first. Secondly, he is a great coach and father figure to a lot of single parent, low socioeconomic students, which he gets their best and he helps those kids at least be successful while at DHS.

He has a great winning record and tradition at Danville and it comes from the support of the administration, parents, community of the Danville School System. There are many things that we as fans don't see that coaches do behind closed doors to make their program be successful. Sam is a man that I would trust my son with at any given moment and not question anything.

 

As for the Boyle program, Smith brought Boyle to a new level and respectfully their administration has been in full support of their football program and in all sports. Boyle dresses over 100 kids on Friday nights and each are apart of a winning program and from the outside looking in; it’s amazing to see this.

 

I am a fan of both programs to be as successful as they can be, help young men learn to work hard, achieve goals individually and as a team player, and represent the county and city we all share in a positive manner.

 

Coaching takes a lot of time away from family and it takes not only the head coach, but the entire coaching staff to reach out and work as hard as they can to help the head coach be recognized. If it weren't for all the coaches from little league to the high school, both programs would not be where they are.

 

No matter what school you are from, we teach respect and sportsmanship. I hope that all fans of this great game will lose their ego and realize the importance of what we have here in the County. Eventually each coach that is successful and has accomplished about all he can at a school, sometimes the challenge to stay on top is what motivates Sam Harp and each coach, but Sam should be allowed to walk away when he is ready.

 

Good luck to all each school in Boyle County/Danville and the surrounding schools. We are blessed to have such great football in this area! :thumb:

Does anybody think that coach Sam Harp should step down after this year? He's had kids quit, kids transfer, do u think his time is up at Danville, and they should move on and get somebody else to run the program? He's done enough for the program what more does he have to prove?

NO!!!!

I don't think Harp needs to go, but I do wish he would lay the law down on some of the players. If they are not willing to comit then they don't need to play. The weight training program has not been pushed the way it should have been, if it had, the Admiral defense would not have looked like swiss cheese last year. The Admirals have some athletes, but they need to be a lot stronger and more agressive. If you don't want to be agressive, Why even play? Tom Duffy is the coach that rebuilt Danville football to Championship status and layed a good foundation for Coach Harp. But no doubt Coach Harp is a great Coach and continued to build on what Duffy started.

I remember back at the end of the 1990's when NewCath had two losing seasons in a row and a lot of people thought Bob Schneider was done. All that happened next was NewCath was one of the most successful teams of the past ten years. I would not be surprised to see the same thing happen with Sam Harp. If anyone thinks he can't coach anymore, that is their problem.
