adsfan Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Does anybody think that coach Sam Harp should step down after this year? He's had kids quit, kids transfer, do u think his time is up at Danville, and they should move on and get somebody else to run the program? He's done enough for the program what more does he have to prove?
Voice of Reason Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Wouldn't it be something if Danville merged with Boyle County and Harp became their head coach?
stick1 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I think with what Harp has done for Danville he should go when he feels like going. He's had a career many dream of!
PurplePride92 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Wouldn't it be something if Danville merged with Boyle County and Harp became their head coach? Even if the schools merged(which has been a small rumor around these parts lately) Sam Harp would not be the head coach. I can guarantee you that. No disrespect is intended in saying that, but it is the truth. No chance at all for that scenario to happen if the schools did indeed merge.

He's done enough for the program what more does he have to prove? There is no easy answer to this question. I liken it to the Bobby Bowden situation. If you are in this area or a Danville fan, a change at the top wouldn't bother you at all. Those from afar and on the outside looking in will say he deserves to go out how he wants. I think we all know I am a Rebel, but being close to the situation going on at Danville, a breath of fresh air is needed in the program and I don't know if Sam Harp can provide that breath of fresh air that is needed. If Danville doesn't improve next year, I think a lot of people who feel this way will be come even louder. Especially if the latest rumor I heard about a possible transfer is true. I am not sure if I believe the rumor nor will I take part in spreading it until I can confirm it, but I never would have thought that Will Dunn would transfer either so who knows. I guess we'll see what happens.
adsfan Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 So who would be the coach if they did merge? Purple Pride don't say Larry French either.
PurplePride92 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 So who would be the coach if they did merge? Purple Pride don't say Larry French either. Depends, but I would think that it would be French's job before it would be Harp's. Harp would likely be a top choice for the AD position. That being said, I don't see a merger taking place anytime soon. Both coaches will be done when the merger comes.

I guess we'll see what happens. I see this situation very differently. From my experiences, Coach Harp is one of the main reasons Danville has continued to be very good in football for an extended period of time. And, they have done so next door to Boyle County's program which has emerged as one of the best in the state. I was the head coach at Paris when our enrollment was declining, following Goins, Reese, and Gruneisen. It is tough for the city schools in this day and time to continue at the same level of success from the past. When I was the Greyhound head coach, I promise you we worked our tails off to get back to the way things had been. We had a couple very good teams, and were doing our best to build a program. But, to say it was tough is an understatement. Let a revolving door happen with the head football position at Danville HS and the program will deteriorate quickly. Danville has stayed at the top or near it, in my opinion, largely as a result of Coach Harp- both because he is a great coach and because he has provided stability. If I were a Danville fan or parent, I would do all I could do to keep Coach Harp happy and keep him coaching our Ads and my son. We open with the Ads in 2010 at Admiral Stadium. There may have been a few bumps in the road here lately, but they are still the Admirals and it will be a very tough opener. They are still well coached, they still know how to win, and they will still have some very good players. PurplePride92 you have been good to me and the Royals. And, most of the time, you make some good points. On this matter, we just disagree. David Buchanan

My worry for the Danville program comes more so from hearing parents and fans of Danville who think out loud if Harp is still good for the program. We all know what he has done for the Admiral program and what he will continue to do. I just wonder if the Admiral players, parents and fans still buy into what Harp is teaching. It seems like they bought into it a lot more when they were winning and now that they don't win like they are used to he is bearing the blame and it seems he is losing fans by the day. Doesn't make it right, but it does make it a reality. A good season next year would quiet the doubters, but if they lose in the second round of the playoffs again the way they did this past year, you can rest assured they will become louder. Again, doesn't make it right, but it does make it a reality. Take care, Coach and good luck next year. As long as my beloved Rebels aren't playing the same day, I'll come check you guys out at Admiral Stadium. I'm sure there will be a nice amount of Mercer fans coming to watch you guys as well if they aren't playing also.
Voice of Reason Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I remember back at the end of the 1990's when NewCath had two losing seasons in a row and a lot of people thought Bob Schneider was done. All that happened next was NewCath was one of the most successful teams of the past ten years. I would not be surprised to see the same thing happen with Sam Harp. If anyone thinks he can't coach anymore, that is their problem.

I'll be shocked if they aren't much improved next year. Shocked. Even without Will Dunn.
Jim Schue Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I can assure you that the fans and coaching staffs at Bardstown, Washington Co. and Ft. Knox would be thrilled if Danville fans sent Coach Harp off into retirement. That should tell Danville fans all they need to know about the "Danville Coaching Situation."
rebel man Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 The Boyle football program had very little success until the last fifteen years. When Chuck Smith was hired everything changed. Chuck Smith would probably tell you in his early years at Boyle when he was getting beat every year by Danville it probably pushed him harder and the assistants to try and get were Danville was. My point is Sam Harp not only elevated Danville football but football for the entire area. From a Rebel fan I still think he is a great coach and this may be the dumbest thread i have ever responded to.If you put something negative about Sam Harp on here you know very little about high school football.
jvdfc Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I think with what Harp has done for Danville he should go when he feels like going. He's had a career many dream of! :thumb: I agree. Nuff said.
PurplePride92 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Okay, so this is a dumb thread and Sam Harp should be allowed to do whatever he wants because of his great coaching resume. No argument from me on that. :thumb: I guess until Danville starts winning like they used to the fairweather fans will continue to fall by the way side. Looking forward to the Boyle County/Danville game this year.:thumb:
