I remember back at the end of the 1990's when NewCath had two losing seasons in a row and a lot of people thought Bob Schneider was done. All that happened next was NewCath was one of the most successful teams of the past ten years. I would not be surprised to see the same thing happen with Sam Harp. If anyone thinks he can't coach anymore, that is their problem.

 

Then he hung on so long that he physically couldn't even finish a season. Sometimes the "right" decision of when to quit has nothing to do with talent in the system or the teams future prospect.

 

Also I am not a believer in that because you won at a high level previously in your career that somehow allows you to stay on indefinitely when your teams are no longer winning at that level.

I agree. I would think that there are plenty of schools who would love to have Coach Harp.

The interest level in Danville football has dropped IMO because of spoiled fans. They got used to year in and out showing up at 3 or 4 games a year (Boyle Co, Bardstown, Semi Finals, and Finals) and being able to beat there chest about "their" football program and team.

 

Danville is struggling in part due to the success of Boyle Co and their program and in part due to less talent. Danville went through a 20-25 year cycle of great talent and football. They are a little down to their standards, but it will be back.

I think you are 100% right in this statement. I will never forget the disappointment of going to the Danville/Green County second round playoff game at Admiral Stadium in 2008 and being one of what looked like 100 fans in the stands. It was unbelievable. Green County, on the other hand, had the entire visitors side filled.

Danville fans wanting Harp to leave, what a joke. The man has done enough there to call his own shots on when he wants to leave.

Well, we are up to 40 posts in this thread and I believe every poster except adsfan believes Harp is still a great coach. So let's not let one person's opinion shape our view of Harp's support or lack of it in Danville.

Last year they had a ton of injuries and still made the playoffs and won a game. I am telling you from seeing that team week one and how much better they had gotten in week 10. It isn't a coaching issue.

I agree, but this is also the times when you then have to be willing to out work people in the weight room, taking pride and caring enough to do what has to be done to win. Some of Danville's losses last year were because the other teams were more talented and some were because they were out worked. Danville has won some games in the past against more talented teams because of work ethic, dedication, and the desire to lay it on the line. It appears that some of the younger players coming up may get back to having this attitude, I hope so. I honestly wish some of the older players, if they haven't changed their attitude for this year would just decide not to play football this year. And I'm talking about some that have some good athletic ability, but lack agressiveness and effort.

One thing I've noticed lacking at Danville over the last few years is size on the offensive and defensive line. I don't have stats to back this up, but the Ads used to be pretty big on the front lines, but they've been pretty average-sized of late. That might have something to do with a previous posters mention of working hard in the weight room. But it's hard to use your speed if you can't create holes.
