January 11, 201016 yr The Bengals probably have to decide: 1. Benn/Tate, still it usually takes at least a year for major impact. 2. Round 2 is tough. Could get a TE or maybe someone like Arenas to play the nickel and have a special teams guy. Would like to take maybe Myron Rolle in the 4th/5th and maybe Pettrey in the 6th/7th. One big this is the don't have any major free agents to be I believe. Also, FA WR is thin. Maybe Lance Moore... but there are a few TE's. Shaffler from Denver and Ben Watson from NE even Owen Daniels. Edited January 11, 201016 yr by John Anthony
January 11, 201016 yr I sure hate to see the Bengals waste yet another draft pick on a TE. I mean, seriously, they just took Coffman in the third round this year. This is a big kid (6' 6", 250 lbs) that won the Mackey Award last season as college football’s top tight end. I'd like to see if he can live up to expectations before throwing away yet another pick on a TE for an offensive scheme that refuses to utilize the position correctly.

Wouldn't mind seeing them bid on Schaeffler or Watson. I don't think we have any notable FA's to be.
January 11, 201016 yr Dez Bryant, Golden Tate, and Arrelious Benn are regarded as the top 3 WR prospects in next year's draft. Are any of these 3 #1 WR material? Bryant I would say so? Next season you have Floyd, Jones, and Green all of which appear to be #1 receiver material. IMO, Ocho, for as good as he is, he is not a top flight receiver and with his age needs to be relegated to the #2 role. If he is healthy, Grisham (OU) at TE would be available around the time the Bengals will select. And people, quit throwing out these outlandish trade scenarios. Trades in the NFL are few and far in between and no organization is going to trade their entire draft for Carson, Chad, or whomever. The Minnesota/Dallas trade in the 80s was an aberration and Hershel had 10X the cred of anyone on the Bengals team.
January 11, 201016 yr A lot of people keep mentioning Brandon Marshall. I think Marshall is just behind Johnson and Fitzgerald as far as talent. Taking Marshall is a coin flip with his antics and he is a straight up head case.
January 11, 201016 yr CJ couldn't sniff B. Marshalls jock IMO! Marshall is much more talented. The only thing they have in common is they are both head cases. I think CJ probably has a better heart but they are both all about themselves. I would rather have a guy like Fitz or A Johnson that is one of the best in the league but just go out and perform! They need a #1 and #2 WR plus a legit TE. They have none right now. CJ could be a #2 if you brought a top flight stud WR in. None of it matters if they don't get an OC IMO.

CJ may not compare with Marshall now, but he certainly could in his prime. CJ is quite a bit older than Marshall. CJ would make a fine #2 WR for the Bengals. It is a #1 WR that they desperately need. Few very WR's are not head cases these days. Fitz and AJ are exceptions to the rule and those types just don't come around that often. You by and large have to put up with these prima donnas if you want a true #1 on your team. I certainly think Coffman can be a legit TE pass threat. He was the best there was in college last year and never got a chance to do anything this year. I 'd hate to see the Bengals expend a high pick on another TE when they have needs at other spots in which a potential starting candidate does not exist on the current roster.

I'm sure Johnson was meant to refer to Andre Johnson.
January 11, 201016 yr Chad isn't half the head case that Marshall is. Probably because Chad isn't a head case. He just likes the spotlight.
January 11, 201016 yr Chad not being a headcase is laughable IMO. I do agree he loves the spotlight. I was comparing CJ now vs BM now earlier. Not even close production wise. I will say I think Marshall is a bigger nut case than Chad. I wish they could package him and LJ for somebody like a Simms Walker. A solid young #1. Wayne, AJohson, Fitz, Driver, Jennings, S. Rice, Simms Walker, M. Austin, Colston etc. They don't have to be head cases. Chad is a #2 at best and he is a basketcase to be a #2. It still ticks me off they blew that deal with the Redskins! They need a complete overhaul at WR IMO. I was happy about the Kauffman pick but he didn't dress most of the games. I wouldn't give up on him but I wouldn't sit around and wait either. Not sure what free agent TE's are out there. I'd go WR then best player WR/DE/TE S.
January 12, 201016 yr Roll your eyes all you want but Carson missed a ton of throws yesterday, like it or not. This is what I'm saying when Bengals fans are overrating Palmer. There are so many more talented quarterbacks in the NFL but not many fans realize it. He did miss a few throws, however his receivers also missed a lot of catchable balls. Some of you all act like all these other QB's with the stats make perfect throws all the time. Watch these games in the playoffs. The QB's even in the games this past weekend, make throws a lot like Palmer did. They were high, some were behind receivers, some got guys drilled right after they caught it. The thing is though those receivers caught it. Its not like those QB's made great throws the whole time, receivers do have to help out the QB and the receivers on this team don't. It is seriously laughable to hear some of you all talk about saying the Bengals need a new QB. This team was a playoff team this year, this team would not have made the playoffs this year without him. Some of you all act like if we put some other QB's on this team, that it would have been so much better. The fact is there is no talent on this offense for him to throw to besides Chad. Palmer was able to lead us down field to get us wins this year, without those we don't make the playoffs. But yeah great idea you all have to go get a new QB, so we could probably just lose those games too.... There are a lot of teams in the NFL who would still love to have Palmer.

Get another talented WR, and a TE and this offense will be good again. If they also get rid of Chad, and not much in return. Then this team might as well not even think about the playoffs for a few years.
