January 12, 201016 yr Personally I think people are crazy if they say the Bengals need a new QB. Please tell me one QB that would be an elite QB that has to play in a ball control offense? Please tell me what makes you think some other QB's could have done so much better than Palmer had to deal with this year? Please tell me what QB's could do great in this predicatable offense we have under this terrible offensive coordinator? You all also do realize we had basically the same team this year as we had on the 4-11 team. Except last years 4-11 team actually had more talent on offense, how did that team do without Palmer? Without Palmer this offense and team is a 4 win team. There is not much talent on this team. The Bengals lost their top 2 TE's before the season even started. They lost their only other talented receiver to injury in the late Chris Henry. The offensive coordinator is terrible. The receivers don't help out Palmer at all to make tough catches. Unless its a perfect pass, they don't catch it. Yet you all think a new QB would solve all that? How well did the great Tom Brady do yesterday without him having one of his best receivers, and not having all the time in the world to throw it? It just shows QB's need help from everyone for them to do well. If you all think Palmer is the Bengals problem, then I question people knowledge of football. If you look at it as a whole, you will see that he is not the problem. Upgrade the Receiver, and TE positions and have a new offensive cooridinator, and you will see that and would just feel pretty stupid for ever saying they need to get rid of him. Palmer is a QB they can win with, and have won with. No reason to try to get a different one. Its not easy finding a QB that will do well, and you would think my fellow Bengal fans would know that better than anyone after what we went through after Boomer left. Put something around him, and you will he is not the problem at all and we should be happy to have him.
January 12, 201016 yr Palmer really struggled with accuracy and confidence, elite QB's may do that for a game, but not for a season. I agree he is not the major problem, but he is not an elite super bowl caliber QB either. Now I wouldn't draft a QB this year unless it is a sleeper late, I would give him a deep threat at WR, and a playmaking TE and hope he proves me wrong and has a great year next year, if not, then you may look at the QB spot in the 2011 draft.

I would really like people to name me some elite QB's who have to play in a ball control type offense like the Bengals played this year?
January 12, 201016 yr I would really like people to name me some elite QB's who have to play in a ball control type offense like the Bengals played this year? How does whether or not the Bengals play in a ball control/rush-first offense have anything to do with Palmer's inability to consistently throw accurate balls when he is called on to pass? Not sure how you define "ball control" offense, but the easiest comparison is number of passing attempts. QB's that threw a similar numbers of times as Palmer (466 attempts) this year would include Rivers (486 attempts), Flacco (499), Roethlesberger (506), and Eli Manning (509), all of whom I'd take over Palmer. You like Palmer, that's great. You're kidding yourself if you think he is anything other than a very, very average QB who was responsible for a good chunk of the Bengals' passing problems and has seen his performance greatly deteriorate over the past few years.
January 12, 201016 yr I would really like people to name me some elite QB's who have to play in a ball control type offense like the Bengals played this year? ^ Ditto, what Coop said. Eli Manning Tony Romo Donovan McNabb They all run what is being called the "East Coast" offense. Which is pretty much what the Bengals run.
January 12, 201016 yr ^ Ditto, what Coop said. Eli Manning Tony Romo Donovan McNabb They all run what is being called the "East Coast" offense. Which is pretty much what the Bengals run. Romo threw it almost 100 times more than Carson :idunno:
January 12, 201016 yr ^ Which is about 6 more times a game. Not much difference. Plus sometimes you have to look at games they were trailing in the 4th qtr and threw it more than normal. That goes for both teams, I know. But their offenses are very similar in design. You know what I take it back, Romo that is, the more I think about it and look at their playbooks more carefully. January 12, 201016 yr Bengals need.. WR - Some kind of deep threat. S DE OL We do no need to draft a QB unless a guy like Lefevour fell to later rounds..

It's good enough for a difference between 5th and 19th in attempts

Interestingly enough, I think that Dallas' intent at the onset of the year was to have a ball control-type offense, but with Barber having a realtively unproductive year, injuries to Jones and Choice, and the emergence of Miles, they ended up going to a more pass-first oriented offense.
January 12, 201016 yr Wow trade Chad and this offense would have been even worst and no playoffs this year. Get another talented WR, and a TE and this offense will be good again. If they also get rid of Chad, and not much in return. Then this team might as well not even think about the playoffs for a few years. I disagree. I think he's an overrated loudmouth. He was a really good WR. Now he's a pretty good WR IMO. He has no #2 which hurts but IMO he is a #2. When you go running your mouth for the playoffs about the guy defending you and he has more yds than you or close then you need to look yourself in the mirror! The Bengals can run the ball. I would get a physical possesion WR, a deep threat and a legit TE (along with an OC). They are about at a point where they have to sell their soul or clean house at the WR position. Brandon Marshall and CJ might cripple the team together but they would open up the offense some. I'd rather trade for a legit young WR then try to pry Boldin out of Arz. Dez Bryant and Anquan Boldin would be pretty exciting at the WR spots! Anybody know what free agent TE's will be available? I think Heath Miller might be but I don't see him getting out of town.

Garrett has done an outstanding job of getting different guys involved in the game. Jones is the HR threat that opens up the offense but he can't stay healthy. Williams reminds me of Chad Johnson a lot. Thinks he's better than he is. CJ is actually better IMO. When they quit worrying about getting Williams the ball as much Austin proved who the #1 WR is on that team. He's been a serious explosive threat. Witten is about as all around solid TE as there is in the league.
January 12, 201016 yr Let me remind people that I do not think Palmer is the main issue. But I do not think we will EVER win anything with him under center. That's just my opinion.

You're kidding yourself if you think he is anything other than a very, very average QB who was responsible for a good chunk of the Bengals' passing problems and has seen his performance greatly deteriorate over the past few years. Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Todd Heap, Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson. These are all guys these QB's have to throw the ball to, what does Palmer have? Just Chad Johnson who is definitely not in his prime anymore. Do all these teams have better offensive coordinators than the Bengals, no doubt. The only guy you listed who doesn't have to much to work with either, but probably still has better talent to throw to is Eli, and how did he do this year? You are kidding yourself if you don't look at the big picture of things. To many of you want to look back at 2005 and compare that to now. Things are way different now than they were then. A lot of talent, compared to no not much now. You are kidding yourself if you think the Bengals are better off with having someone else at QB. You are kidding yourself if you think the offense wouldn't do much better with some more talent at receiver and a new OC. Yes Palmer has missed some passes, but its also probably hard to do when your receivers can't get any seperation. He basically knows he has to make a perfect pass, or else they won't catch it. He is trying to hard with it now. Once again you are just kidding yourself if you do think this team is better off without him. Put some more talent around him, and you will see how silly you sound to act like he is the main problem for the passing offense. Personally I am starting to think most of my fellow Cincinnati fans are crazy. We just made the playoffs, and we have guys wanting to get rid of our QB. I doubt many teams are wanting to get rid of a QB after a playoff run. You all act like it is so easy to find a QB, that would do good. We are lucky to have him, and a lot of teams would like to have him. We are better off with him than without him. If we get some talent at receiver to throw too, and have other guys besides people who were 4th on the depth chart at TE to throw too, then you will see that.
