January 12, 201016 yr So your basically saying put another QB on this team, and the Bengals are better off? Now that is just funny... The Bengals had basically the same team last season during the 4-11-1 season, and actually had more talent on the offense. How well did that team do, without Palmer? Thats right 4-11-1. What is the one thing the Bengals added this year back to the offense, thats right Palmer. This team is much better off with Palmer, than they would be without him. And to think that it would be so easy to find someone to be better than him to replace him is just laughable. We were starting Fitzpatrick in one of the best divisions in football. The 4-11-1 season is a dumb argument about this offense. Everyone knows Fitzpatrick is garbage and isn't close to Carson Palmer. What team in the history of this league would win with him? Not to mention we didn't sign Benson until like week 10 or so.
January 12, 201016 yr I really hope the Bengals will at least talk to the Broncos about a possible trade for Brandon Marshall. If they can get Marshall, and hopefull Coffman develops this offseason. Then that could fix a lot of problems on the offense, even if they don't get a new OC. Then this way with the picks they have left after the trade, they could focus on finding a safety, and just adding depth to other areas.

January 12, 201016 yr I agree with this although I think we are deeper at LB than most people think. WR, Safety, TE and deeper on both lines. They just can't seem to figure it out at TE. Coats is not the answer. Foschi had a few good moments. Maybe the kid they drafted will pan out. The FA thing hasn't worked (Utecht). At LB, I just wonder how long Jones can perform. Mauluga and Rivers are fixtures. it has concerned me how TEs and recieving RBs seem to do well against the Bengals. Maybe thats a Safety issue as well.

I would try like heck to get Brandon Marshall, and maybe they could for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Seems like when other top receivers got traded it hasn't taken a #1. If they are able to do something like that, then with the 1st round pick I would either take a safety, or if a player like Brandon Spikes is still around or someone like that. Then I would grab him, because you are right Jones is getting up there in age. We would be set at linebacker for many years then after that.

I like the veteran LBs (Jones, Johnson) to mix with the youth of Rivers, Ray and even Jeanty. You are dead on with the teams that killed us most caught balls out of the backfield and from the tight end. Speaks to how well the corners played some.
January 12, 201016 yr I agree with this although I think we are deeper at LB than most people think. WR, Safety, TE and deeper on both lines. I agree with the LB comment. I think just about everyone with the exception of Dhani missed some action this year, and I don't think there was any real drastic drop off. (Although I would have loved to have both Rey and Rashad for the NY game.) I'd be surprised if they spend a pick (especially an early one) for this position. I'd also agree with the other positions. My question, though, is... a.) Could we possibly see Quan Cosby in more of a Wes Welker type of role next year? I know he's not going to stretch the field....but could he be more of the possession type of receiver that we had with TJ? It seemed like he was getting a little more playing time at the end of the year, and Carson seemed more comfortable throwing to him as well. b.) Could we possibly see Chase Coffman used as a tight end more like Dallas Clark (ie: split out)? If he's having trouble with the blocking schemes...how about putting him in a spot where he doesn't have to block! If teams walk a line backer out on him...then, he should probably win that battle in pass coverage. If they bring in another DB to cover him...then it should be easier for him to block him one on one, if you do decide to run. Of course, both of these probably hinge on having a new OC...but, in the event that that DID happen...are these guys worthy of saving some draft choices for other positions? Or do we need to look for new personnel? Edited January 12, 201016 yr by CincySportsFan grammar
January 12, 201016 yr Cosby finished 1st in the league in PR yardage and 5th in average. That alone gives him a roster spot. He has shown the ability to be a 4th WR also and possibly even step up to the 3rd if need be. Maybe this is one reason you draft guys who went to Texas instead of Coastal Carolina.
January 12, 201016 yr Count me among those that would like to see Cincy take Aaron Pettrey if he's available in the 6th round or so.

Not debating his value on the team as a PR. Figured it'd be a given he'd be back next year in that role. But, was just wondering his value to the team as a WR. I, like a lot of others, think it's important to get a "burner" to help stretch the field. But, are we looking for just that? Or are we looking for a #3 as well?

I agree I mean Coles is a declining 3, Caldwell is a 3, Cosby could be a 3.
January 12, 201016 yr I agree I mean Coles is a declining 3, Caldwell is a 3, Cosby could be a 3. Yep. Of the three, Caldwell has the best chance of becoming a two. At this point we need a #1... Chad be the two... one of these guys be the three.
January 12, 201016 yr Yep. Of the three, Caldwell has the best chance of becoming a two. At this point we need a #1... Chad be the two... one of these guys be the three. :thumb: But Chad would still be the #1 in his mind.
January 12, 201016 yr :thumb: But Chad would still be the #1 in his mind. Even though he will never admit it. I think what Reves did to him in those two games, opened his eyes some and probably made him realize that he is not quite as good as he use to be. So your probably right he would still consider himself the #1 receiver and probably say that, but I think even he would realize deep down if they had a Brandon Marshall on the team it would really help him out now. So I don't think he would cause to much trouble if they did go out and get a guy like Marshall or something to be the #1. It would only end up actually helping Chad out and probably help extend his career more.
January 12, 201016 yr I think last year went a long way in making Chad realize he isn't superman and needs help from everyone of the team to do well.
