Congrats to Mayfield. Totally cotrolled the game from the start. This game boiled down to the simple fact that we always talk about in big games - the line. Beechwood's lack of size up front just could not be overcome. Yes, plenty of speed in the skill positions for Mayfield but they won this game at the line of scrimmage. Beechwood fans who weren't at the game - just think Dixie, CCH and Highlands. When Beechwood faced the big lines, they struggled.

 

Congrats to the great 8 Beechwood seniors. Their first loss to a 1A team. Two rings and a trip to the semis. A tremendous run by the great 8.

Congrats to Mayfield. Total domination. The final might be a good one; however, I wouldn't be surprised if Mayfield wins big next week too.

Actually, as I recall, #5 & UK fball fan both predicted lopsided wins by Mayfield. And they took quite a bit of flack for it in the prediction threads.

 

I look forward to the posts of some of their antagonists who derided them for predicting against Beechwood....

I was a little shocked by the lack of size in Beechwoods line. As some have said here Mayfield controlled the line of scrimmage. Beechwood hardly threatened to score. Most here said Beechwood was fast and they are definately not slow, Mayfield's speed and line play took controll of this game. I met some nice people from Beechwood and Beechwood is a very well coached team. They never quit to the final whistle and they are a hard hitting team. I am sure there are going to be more matchups in the near future.

Just got home from the game. As stated by Voice of Reason, the game was won at the line of scrimmage. Mayfield moved the ball at will, and Beechwood struggled. I will say that the hit that Jackson (#9) put on the Beechwood punter on the fake punt was one of the BIG plays of the game. I've got a feeling we will be playing this one again next year at the Tigers' house.

I know Beechwood was a bit down this season but Mayfield must be pretty good to not only win but to win big while pitching a shutout. Seems like just last year that many from Mayfield thougth their talent pool had shrunk.

Though I did not like what I was listening to, I have to admit that the coverage by the local Mayfield radio station (mywymc) , was well done. Those guys clearly loved their Cardinals and yet tried to find nice things to say about Beechwood. I had to admire their enthusiasm for Mayfield and their class about the win.

Thank you very much for your kind words about our coverage...we try to do our best and be fair to both schools. We are Mayfield graduates and love the Mayfield program but know that these are kids out their playing a game and deserve to be treated with fairness and respect regardless of which team uniform they wear.

 

Thank you again for your kind words...we have nothing but respect for the outstanding accomplishments Beechwood has shown over the years and look forward to (hopefully) an annual rivalry game the day after Thanksgiving. Your young men played hard and clean from start to finish. Best of luck to all the Beechwood seniors you had a great run.

 

For Mayfield players...great job of listening to your coaches this week and soaking up the game plan and running it to perfection against a very good football team. You guys have made us proud this season with your determination and workmanlike attitude...and expect to see the same against a very good LCA ballclub next Saturday.

I am just glad that Coach Morris rediscovered how to coach again this year. There was a lot of negativity on the message boards last year about the state of Mayfield football. Looks like they have the ship righted. Congrats to them.

Mayfield wasn't going to win state the last two years but they had the talent to at least go to semi state.

Would Crittenden have been able to beat this Beechwood team?

Biggest thing is he got Cliff Dew to come back from mississippi...he is letting Dew handle the defense and hatchell offense.
