I think Crittendens OL would have handled Beechwoods. I also think Gray and Berry would have had some success running the ball. Beechwood was a little quicker, but, not by alot and I think there size and strength advantage would have been too much for Beechwood to contain. Would have been a good game though with, IMO, the edge going to CC.

Great points VOR. I fully expect Beechwood to be right in the hunt next year. Alot of really solid underclassmen. I also remember that Danville team in 2003. They were outstanding. 2 great RBs, one a fast elusive back and another brusing back and there QB could pass extremely well. If I'm not mistaken that Danville team beat Highlands, Manual and there only loss was to a powerhouse Boyle Co team, who went undefeated. That same year, Mayfield played a brutal schedule, losing to loaded teams in Eville North, PTilghman and Hopkinsville and the Admirals came to our place and put a pretty good whippin on us as well.

Should have. Would have. Could have. It's all about match ups. Sometimes it's really hard to say. Just because so and so played well against a certain team doesn't mean they can beat another team.

It's not like there's never been a debate about woulda, shoulda and coulda's. I recall seeing tons of discussion about a hypothetical St X/Highlands game. I agree it's about matchups, but, imo, CC would handle Beechwood because of there size and strength and players like Berry and Gray are as quick as anyone that would be on the other side of the field. I think Beechwood would have had more success throwing the ball against CC than they did against Mayfield and it would definately be a closer game. Just an opinion.

Because we will have 80% of our team back and people like Johnathon Jackson will be a year older. He is going to be a load. You think Murrell 's good, he is going to be awesome. The line is back, Guhy is back, the kicker is back. Every player on defense but 3.

Have you noticed that there's been no more talk from the NKY people about Mayfield playing a "weaker schedule"?

 

Maybe the strength of schedule, while helpful, isn't everything.

I think Mayfields schedule is a little better than given credit for. The Trousdale Co win was very solid. The PTilghman win looks alot better now. Graves Co was a 7-3 6A team that played Lone Oak closer than anyone in the playoffs have. Beating Crittenden twice isn't an easy chore either. I think it was plenty tough enough to prepare them for the playoff run. All those teams bring differnt things to the table to challenge you and help determine what they needed to improve on...

I told one Beechwood fan at the game about our schedule and that we beat the #1 team in 2A from Tenn. He told me that's just 2A like it wasn't good enough and that their schedule was superior. While Beechwood played a very tough schedule they were hammered in all their loss's except NCC.

We got very little respect from the pollsters here and the few fans I met seemed to think before the game that they would beat us because they had more or as much speed as us and this fan said their line was really strong. At the half I heard a different song. As I have said Beechwood was very well coached and all the fans very nice.

It would have ended in the semis the last 2 years.

I too think that Gray & company would beat the Beechwood team I saw last Friday, just too small up front to handle the farm boys blocking for Gray & Critt backs!

I don't think anyone from Beechwood is assuming victory next year. But I do think they all look forward to perhaps playing Mayfield next year, just like I am sure LCA wanted to face Hazard again in the semis this year. I am sure we all expect Mayfield to be ready for the challenge as well.

 

As to the strength of schedule issue, I agree that Mayfield's schedule has proven to be a little stronger than it looked earlier in the year. And as the poster above stated, schedule isn't everything but it does help outsiders evaluate how strong your team is. Mayfield was underestimated all year partially because of their record last year. Next year they will be highly rated because of their performance this year. That's just the way it goes in public opinion and polls.

 

Mayfield has a great team and this Beechwood fan will be rooting for them next week. After all, they do have the right team colors. Go Big Red!
