Since a few of you wanna talk about next year, I'll say this. I expect Mayfield to beat Beechwood again. Why? Because we will have 80% of our team back and people like Johnathon Jackson will be a year older. He is going to be a load. You think Murrell 's good, he is going to be awesome. The line is back, Guhy is back, the kicker is back. Every player on defense but 3.

 

Beechwood thinks the same thing. I look forward to the next few years being a Beechwood fan. They will be loaded and sounds like so will Mayfield but only time will tell.

Mr Voice, By the same token maybe Beechwood was overrated all season? They played in a weak district and the big teams they played hammered them. To much stock was put in what Beechwood did last year. As I told many here, Beechwood was the defending state champ but it was not the same team. The same will be said for Mayfield, as Mayfield was not the same team as it was last year or will it be the same team next year.

This yr, for example, it seemed Danville had to lose about 6 games before they finally didn't get rated. Belfry and Central pretty much stayed in the Top 2-3 all year in 3a because of past successes, but, this years teams just weren't that good. NCC & Beechwood, pretty much the same thing.

2003 was similar to yesterday's Mayfield game. Danville's line just plowed through Beechwood all day. IMO it was more dominating than what Mayfield did.

 

In 2004, Beechwood came back bigger and stronger up front and did the same thing to Danville.

 

Let there be no doubt in anyone's minds that Beechwood will do what they need to do this off season and come back next year bigger, stronger and better. They have the talent coming and the work ethic is always there at Beechwood. The Beechwood fans will be rooting for Mayfield to make it back to the semis next year and coming to Beechwood for a visit.

I disagree about the weak district. I would say their district was a good 1A district this year. Bellevue should have been in the top 10 in 1A all year and finished in the top 10. So the district had 2 top 10 teams and there are only 2 or 3 districts in 1A with 2 top 10 teams.

More size and talent is coming for sure. I still think next year they will be a little lighter than recent years in the size category unless some guys grow and/or bulk up significantly. There are several sophomores that have the frames to build on. There will be good depth next year so I see most linemen going one way, which helps.

After the playoffs though I have to question if Hazard was better then Beechwood. I say they are both pretty close to each other, but the performance that Hazard had against LCA makes me think they may be a little better. I would say the difference is negotiable, but I could see the argument for either Beechwood or Hazard at the number three spot.

IMO, Crittenden Co was better than Beechwood, as well. They had 3 losses all year, 2 to Mayfield and 1 to Murray, who was undefeated and gave Ft Campbell all they wanted in the playoffs. Solid ballclub, for sure.

Beechwoods district may have fine but no different than Mayfield's or perhaps not as strong. Critt was right there with you and better than Bellevue. The thing that gets me is how so many of you put down Mayfield's schedule when it was in reality a fine schedule. We played 1 Tenn.team that was #1 and Paducah which is playing for a state title, scrimmage Milan Tenn.who was in 3A semi's. When the few pollesters from Mayfield get on here and say they have a squad that could win a title ,I would take them serious. Last year I don't think anyone said we could do it. We get drowned out here. Next year we will again be a serious contender. We aint goin away for a few more years.

I think snake is referring to the fact that Mayfield has 9 seniors, 5 of which were starters all year and that makes most in Mayfield feel like that we should likely be the favorite next year given the returners that will be back. This includes almost all of our line and our QB. We also return a kid named Jackson who this year as a freshman has led the defense in tackles. Many around here feel that this is going to be one of the best players Mayfield has ever produced. I bring this up because I wanted some of you all to check him out, he is already special. I have to imagine that many of the Beecwood fans who saw him had to be impressed.
